Have you checked your cat's microchip contact details lately?

I have just reunited someone with their cat after it went missing for 8 months. I took it to the vets to be scanned. There was a chip but the phone numbers and address were out of date. Fortunately their email was current.

Then I realised I had had a new mobile phone ages ago and never updated the microchip company for my own cat. Blush

Microchips are brilliant aren't they but only if the details are kept current. Smile

As far as I know, tracking requires separate collar-based devices, Youall. ( So far at any rate.) It's to do with battery and power requirements. Nobody has licked that issue yet.

PS - and that's for those cats that would actually wear a collar. My own boys won't tolerate them.

Sparklingcat lost 5 collars in about a month when we first got her. So she goes without now. I would prefer she wore one but there's no point trying.

GinCat is exactly the same. The rescue told us to put a collar on him because he was so rough around the edges, he just looked like a stray. I think he wore a collar for approximately 30 seconds on his first outing. And now he looks...ahem... well fed enough to not pass as a stray, so I don't even bother trying with the collar anymore!

Thanks Cozie. Didn't think if the power issue!

Just checked MCat's and Little M's Petlog details, and they've got my email address wrong, and no landline number, also that Little M's not neutered. They were very kind when DH died though, (MCat and DH moved in with me as bachelors) and didn't charge me for transferring MCat into my name.

Thanks for the reminder Sparkling. Do we have pinned/sticky topics here in the litter tray like on some other boards? Because this one, I think, is v. useful.
