Ok, so cat food has been in cans with ring pulls for years-way before my cats were even born. But yet if I do have to use a can opener they always come running-why? I just have to get it out of the drawer and there they are. It's beans ffs you daft creature.

Note I said Dreamies tin. This is to stop them breaking into the cupboard and eating whole packets of them. They have yet to work out how to open the tin.

sassh but on that basis of tuna being liked but never caught (unless cat lives by sea and fishes for other fish or gets given scraps) how do they know they like chicken as most cats wouldn't catch a chicken??!!

Cheese and milk (even tho you're not supposed to feed non cat milk) I think this is a remnant memory of mother's milk or so I'm guessing.

We have a pond with lots of fish in it. Boy cat regularly manages to navigate the pond cover and retrieve a fish.

He doesn't eat them. He just brings them in and leaves them lying somewhere.

The last time he did it, I walked in and found a perfect gold fish lying on the hearth in front of the fire like some sort of sacrifice to the Gods.

Little fucker.

Mycat but he doesn't necessarily have to be hunting eg hungry for fish but part of the game - I think they see fish as shadows moving....

He's just doing the hunting thing bringing it to you, see my other thread for my cat's hunting or not! Smile

Another story re ponds and fish - my old 2 cats used to try to fish in my pond with or without a cover on, walk the ledge part that separated 2 parts and dangle their paws over the edge until I got a decent net.

One day my boyfriend at time had to clean fountain and inspect pond, so net came part off was pulled back over pond then replaced. As he was replacing it she dived sideways into pond grasped madly at net clutching at something to cling onto fell into and fell into pond taking part of net with her and almost drowned but staggered out (not steep sides). I did tell at her for that but she never went near the pond again! Grin And I got a more secure less loose net covering.

sashh

My own boys have never liked fish much - if at all.

Poor cat having an unexpected dip!

Boy cat also left us a mouse's head on the kitchen floor once. Like he's in the fucking cat mafia or something. I was not impressed.

Our newest cat is 5 years old and I suspect that she is a great hunter. The way she plays with the toys in the house suggests she likes to torment the local wildlife before killing it. I will see in the spring no doubt. At the moment she won't venture off the patio after an unfortunate incident where she got stuck in a neighbours garden. :o

Mycats

Poor Sooty (that was the cat's name!) looked like one of those Tom and Jerry etc cartoon like drowned rats as she emerged from the water and of course it was the loss of dignity and humiliation that made her feel bad after the event! Silly cat!

My current cat (see other thread) was or is a great player/tormentor of toys too... Likes pouncing and playing with everything from cat nip toys to a large IKEA Rattus toy (used to be mine...!). Maybe he's just honing his skills like yours is?!

how do they know they like chicken as most cats wouldn't catch a chicken??!!

Not sure about that, I saw the neighbour's cats tag team a pigeon. Maybe they wouldn't get a fully grown hen but a chick would be no problem.

SuperFlyHigh · 10/02/2017 11:17

Ooh actually sashh you could be right re the chick...

Most of my cats have tried to catch pigeons mostly the wood pigeons but also street pigeons too.

In fact my current cat and the previous male cat have both brought in live wood pigeons from the garden... Leaving me and the lodger to deal with one and luckily an ex boyfriend of mine was around when the other was brought in years ago. Previous male cat caught pigeon with a bell on his collar as he generally didn't like wearing collars but I'd made him wear one in this period...

For a while Ernie was on medicine that came with a syringe...I used to put it on a small piece of raw meat and tried to do it without him seeing..he is a very stupid cat anyway so didnt think he thought more than...mmmm steak

Cue, a good month later, I was cleaning out that little drain at the back of the fridge and had the bright idea that the now unused syringe would work brilliantly.

I have never seen a cat run so fast at the sight of his syringe...stoof there looking all expectant.

I realised Ernie thought...Syringe = raw meat steak
