I'm struggling to stay positive here. My gorgeous 4 year old ginger boy is missing.

We live in a village, fairly rural, with acres and acres of fields behind us and the village in the other direction. He rarely goes out of earshot and has never missed meals before. He is neutered and chipped, but no collar - we tried and tried but he kept ripping them off.

My partner is very optimistic, saying he is probably on a nice hunting trip or eating someone's ham on their sofa. But he's never been gone for long and he is not that friendly with humans, so I doubt he would go in someone's house.

I am less optimistic. I picture him in a ditch hit by a car, or trapped in a shed or garage.

I have put out leaflets and posters and asked the vet to let us know if he gets handed in but....i'm struggling to stay positive.

What are your stories of cats returning home after being missing? How long were they gone and how did you find them?

Another happy ending, pleased to hear he's home.

CoolCarrie · 09/02/2017 12:31

He is a lovely boy, so glad to see he is back home now.

cozietoesie · 09/02/2017 13:11

So pleased he's back.

Is he gated now? Smile

Reow · 09/02/2017 13:15

He's totally grounded for now.

Oh the poor thing! So glad he's home. You're lucky the Fire Brigade agreed to help. They often don't (in which case you need a tree surgeon).

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/02/2017 13:55

So happy for you. Heights are obviously not his strong point.

Poor little sod.

Reow · 09/02/2017 15:04

They (well, the RSPCA) were quite reluctant to help. I had to phone them 3 times getting more and more upset each time.

Their stance was he's a cat, he'll climb down when he's hungry. After 8 days when he's lost half of his body weight and its -1 and snowing outside!?!?!?! Fuck that. We really had to persist to get an officer our and the FB called.

Yippee. Been checking in regularly for an update. So glad he's home. He's a beautiful boy. Definitely keep him under house arrest. I bet you feel like you've aged by about 50 years!

ATailofTwoKitties · 09/02/2017 15:49

RSPCA wouldn't help when our young stupid kitten was stuck up a tree in freezing sleet either.

cozietoesie · 09/02/2017 16:24

How did you get it down, Tail?

ATailofTwoKitties · 09/02/2017 16:46

Umm. Well, this will be VERY outing to anyone who saw us -- it involved a long ladder, forty feet of rope and a large washbasket. Easier to lower a cat briskly down a tree than try to carry it!

ATailofTwoKitties · 09/02/2017 16:48

Sounds like your cat was a lot further up, though, Reow!

Someone should tell the RSPCA that not all cats can climb down trees.

Reow · 09/02/2017 20:29

We tried a basket with food in it on a rope but he was too scared to move and our ladder wasn't tall enough.

I must admit I was vvv frustrated with them. If someone locked a cat in a room for a week and starved it they'd be right round, but because he was in a tree (cliche) they thought he'd just come down. He clearly bloody couldn't else he wouldn't be starving up there in the snow!

But I'm very grateful they helped in the end.

He's now curled up on our bed full of dreamies and milk. At the weekend I'm going to roast a chicken for him Grin

Thanks for your support everyone Flowers

ATailofTwoKitties · 09/02/2017 20:48

Ours wouldn't or couldn't climb into the basket either, even for tuna - she was either too terrified or too frozen to move, having been there all day - not much in comparison to a week, but she was only little! I had to poke her off her branch and hope I didn't overshoot the basket (or fall off the top of the ladder myself).

So glad he's down and fed! He may struggle to cope with too much food at first - I would think little and often is the way.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/02/2017 20:52

Corn fed chicken?

Reow · 09/02/2017 21:01

Yeah we're just giving him a few mouthfuls every few hours at the moment. I'm the one having to restrain myself though. I'm dying to give him a platter of salmon and chicken and cream!

I won't though.

However I am going to get thoroughly hammered tomorrow night, for his homecoming. Netflix, champagne and cat on my lap Smile

cozietoesie · 09/02/2017 21:07

Has he asked to go out at all? Grin

Reow · 09/02/2017 21:58

No, he just wants to eat and sleep so far! And cuddle.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 09/02/2017 22:10

Maybe the experience has cured him of trees? (My granny would have said 'Aye - chance would be a fine thing'. Wink)

RJnomore1 · 09/02/2017 22:14

Ha I love the photo his face says "nothing to see here, move along"

Gorgeous boy
