Should I just accept that this blanket is no longer mine?

I have (?had) a lovely snuggly blanket. There are three others in the house which are the same but different colours. Dgirl cat has decided that my blanket is her blanket. She will walk past the others to get to mine. It is deep purple and she is black so she is virtually camouflaged against it. She will sit on it even when I am underneath it - she is not a lap cat by nature and isn't madly keen on me, it is just when the blanket is there. She then gets annoyed when I move/ take blanket with me to bed. Should I just accept that it is hers or is there any hope that I can wean her onto a different blanket?

My black cat used to hide in the shadows.

And I have a lovely memory of suddenly catching sight of a tabby cat in our summer garden (think long dryish grass) when she moved - she blended in so perfectly when still. I wonder if they learn this stuff when they are kittens?

There are several Ollie lookalikes on this thread! Just love those fangs Grin
My boy has taken to sleeping on top of a suitcase which really needs to go away in a cupboard but makes a perfect kitty bed. Double bonus that he doesn't have to get up to sharpen his claws...

Awww, I love black cats. Feel under the weather today but ribbon cat eating pork scratchings has cheered me up

Think yourself lucky you've only had to give up a blanket, I've lot my seat! Harry has taken over what was once my recliner and I'm perched on the corner seat of the corner unit!

FarFromFolsomPrison · 24/01/2017 12:21

Those pics Grin

DH bought me a heated electric throw for Christmas and my cat assumed it was her present, naturally.

She lies on it all day and generously allows me to share a tiny bit of it, but at night she insists on having sole occupancy. She's so dim though that she doesn't realise it's not actually on at nighttime.

She really is the most unintelligent cat I have ever had. Yesterday she fell behind the back of the sofa (whilst sitting still!) and I had to rescue her. The other day she got stuck in the gate and had to be rescued. I love her.

We also have the camouflage problem - I'm always having to warn people not to sit on the cat :)

That said, we bought the white blanket because I was sick of hoovering white fur off dark surfaces, so we brought it on ourselves really.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 24/01/2017 12:48

Her brother is pure white and, despite being short hair, his hair gets everywhere. He is hard though and doesn't appreciate soft blankets, would rather have a window sill or a bath (no water naturally). He loves strokes, attention, laps and me.

I don't think it is my smell because she definitely prefers other people more, but not their blankets. She's probably just making sure I know my place in the pecking order! If it is a choice between my lap with a different blanket or my blanket not on my lap it will always be my blanket

My previous cat was black and white. She had an "auto-shed" mechanism that allowed black fur to shed on light backgrounds and white to attach itself to dark backgrounds.

shouldwestayorshouldwego, how beautiful. So like my little one.

MinesaBottle · 26/01/2017 18:56

OP you keep using the phrase 'my blanket'. Let it go. You know, I know, we all know whose blanket it is Grin
