Meet Marmalade!

We went today to look at some cats at the local shelter and I had my eye on her from the start been checking the website for weeks
However we were number 28 in the queue and she had been reserved quite early on by someone else. By the time it was time for us to go in and see some other cats we heard someone say over the radio that she was available again. It was fate! She loved the DTs and was licking us all and purring like mad. We are collecting her on Saturday and I can't wait.

She is 10 and has a heart murmur but is not on any medication just yet. She is also still very active if a bit over weight but i'm sure that will come off when she has plenty of space to run around and play.

So excited! Grin

Oh she's such a scrumptious fatty Grin

She looks right at home already

LivingInMidnight · 07/01/2017 13:04

She really does look right at home! She's lovely!

Pengweng · 07/01/2017 13:06

She is a bit of a fatty. She is 5.8kgs and they said ideally she should be 5kgs so we are continuing her light biscuits while she is being kept in but once she is allowed outside in a few weeks we will switch her to regular as she will be getting more exercise. She is currently purring like a tiger and pawing me. Grin

I've yet to have a shy cat - I've adopted 3 older cats, and every one of them has settled as soon as they've had a mooch around out of the crate. Yours looks well happy Grin

Please can we have an update when your DH and the DTs get home?

Pengweng · 07/01/2017 14:32

Yes will update later. DTs are only 4 but they met her last week and she licked them both and had a roll around so i think she will be fine with them.
She has noticed outside and is currently watching the bird feeder which i might need to get DH to relocate somewhere a bit higher. EEK!

She looks like she owns the place!

cozietoesie · 07/01/2017 15:23

She does own the place, Toddler. Grin

Vinorosso74 · 07/01/2017 15:59

She's lovely!

Icequeen01 · 07/01/2017 16:00

Wow, she's one confident young lady. She's adorable. I love seeing photos of rescue cats in their new homes. Gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling 😀

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/01/2017 16:04

The way she's at her bowl - she's comfortable and confident already!

Madbengalmum · 07/01/2017 16:04

Love it, i had a rescue moggy and he stepped straight out of the box and owned the place! She looks well settled.

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/01/2017 16:12

She's lush. Thank you for adopting an older girl

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/01/2017 17:26

I don't think there's a person alive who doesn't adore little kittens regardless of whether or not they're s cat person, but The pro to adopting an older cat. At least you know what you're getting and They are less work

Pengweng · 07/01/2017 19:03

She has eaten and finally just had a big drink of water (after i moved it to a different room from her food) but she hasn't used the litter tray yet and she has been here since midday! Is that normal? Never monitored a cats peeing before but I don't want her holding it in. I bought one with a hood but have left the cover off it for now as she had an open one in the shelter. She has had a sniff around it so she knows where it is and the shelter said she is fine with clay and wood so hopefully the litter isn't putting her off.

She is happily rolling around on the rug at the mo. DTs due back shortly and i'm going to have to distract her so I can open the front door as we have no doors downstairs so can't close her in anywhere! Will be a fun 5 weeks going to school and work!

OP well done for adopting an older cat. If only more people would. She's gorgeous by the way!

SuperFlyHigh · 07/01/2017 19:11

You can get her weight down by feeding her less and getting her to play. Will she be an outdoor or indoor cat?

DB and SIL adopted (friends had cat that was sort of unwanted) a 7-8 year old female cat, she lost weight through less food and playing. She is an indoor cat though.

cozietoesie · 07/01/2017 19:22

They can cross their legs for the longest time if they're minded to. Smile She might be waiting until she has a bit more privacy as well. I wouldn't worry at all yet.

DodoRevival · 07/01/2017 20:03

I had a 36 hour stand off with my cat over the litter tray (and he'd been 16 hours in the vet prior to that - I hadn't asked if he'd go there).

He usually uses the garden but had to be kept in due to stiches - I was so worried!!!

He was desperate though, clawing at the door. He went after I left him overnight shut in the room with the litter tray. I was so stressed about him I couldn't sleep - went down at 3am to find he'd gone (the smell was over whelming!!!) It was clumping litter and I swear the clump was the size of a tennis ball!!!

Pengweng · 07/01/2017 20:40

Good to know she will eventually go to the loo.
She was absolutely fine with DTs too. Playing with her fish on a stick and had a little treat from them (only one each).
She will be an outdoor cat once she is allowed out. They told us to keep her in for 4-6 weeks. I'm not overly concerned about her weight, she has lost .75kgs in 6 weeks of being in the shelter so hopefully the right amount of food and lots of playing will do her good.
