Rescue cat - what happens now?

We brought him home this afternoon and he's now in hiding. We can see him, and when I was out of the room for an hour, he came out and played with one of his new toys, so I think he's just being cautious.

When Seniorboy was my mother's cat, all I ever saw of him was this pale backside shimmying away down the corridor to escape me! He's a little more sociable with strangers now but some cats just prefer their people.
