New cat, some questions!

We have a lovely new cat, my first. I posted a pic of her the other day. She came home on Saturday and has settled in wonderfully, very happy to do her own thing when the dc are about but then sitting with me in an evening before retiring to her cost nest by the heating pipes on a night.

It seems her favourite thing to do on an evening is sit by my and lick my arm continuously whilst padding with her claws on my fore arm. She was very nervous of people at the rescue so I am made up that she is choosing such close physical contact with me so quickly but wanted to check if it is affection or if I should change something? She is currently asleep holding my arm between her forepaws.

Any advice would be gladly received! Smile thank you

You should be very honoured, she has definitely bonded with you as her human Smile

Basically kittens do this padding and sucking when they are feeding from their mother cat. They do it when they're older as it reminds them of the comfort and bond they had with her....so she is basically telling you that you are her new Mummy Xmas Grin

Aw that's lovely! She is a real sweetie. I was a bit concerned she would be very aloof as the rescue said she wasn't that bothered about cuddles but she's been purring her head off every time I speak to her and as I say, cuddles up to me when the dc are in bed. I hope she'll be happy with us.

Is she a kitten? One of mine would actually suckle your arm when he was little, I think it was a comfort thing and he grew out of it eventually. You should feel very honoured that she is seeking you out for comfort and feels so secure this early on, you are obviously doing a fab job!

No need to worry. She loves you. Smile

I've had a few rescue cats and fostered some too and I genuinely believe they understand that you've rescued them....

But yes....today you're her Mummy, tomorrow her slave Grin
