Kitten/cat (6 months old) - only eating jelly off food?

For the past couple of weeks, my kitten has been refusing to eat her catfood, only eating the jelly on it. She has been fed supermarket kitten food since I got her, and biscuits with water. She used to eat it quite happily, then recently has been only eating the jelly and not touching the meat.

I have changed to bowl for every meal so no smell, I have tried different brands including branded ones, but no way will she eat the meat. I have moved the bowl, moved the litter tray further away, everything I can think of. She is eating biscuits though.

I am getting worried about her, should I take her to the vet? Trying to avoid it if unnecessary due to cost.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and resolved it?

I have not had a kitten, but my old cat did this when he was dehydrated or had a bad tooth.

signs of a bad tooth (or other mouth problem) include pawing at mouth or excessive washing of face. This is probably less likely in a kitten though ?

If its been going on a few weeks, I would take her to a vet.

Perhaps someone with experience of younger cats can comment.

Is she's putting on weight and looks healthy ? Is she wormed ?
If she's eating biscuits and drinking water she should be ok, what biscuits does she have ?
Also has she started going outside ? Maybe she has found some extra food ?
My cat has just turned one he did pretty much the same thing turned out he was visiting a couple of extra dinner stops !!
I pretty much had to win him back with left over chicken and tuna !! ( make sure the chicken has not been cooked with onion and garlic it's poison to cats)

She hasn't gone outside yet as she hasn't had her full set of jabs yet and the vet advised against it until they were done.

She has got water every day, she is eating whiskas biscuits.

As long as she has biscuits I wouldn't worry, they don't need wet food and it's mainly water anyway you're better off without it. If it's supermarket brand chances are the recipe or meat has changed which is why they go off them every so often.
Most ownbrand food and cheaper brands like Felix and whiskas are low meat (usually 3 or 4% it'll tell you in the back) content and the ingredients aren't "fixed" meaning they can be changed to what ever is cheapest at the time of manufacturing which is why cats (and dogs) can occasionally go off there food for no reason.

Honestly if she's happy without the wet food I'd just feed the dry from now on as long as the biscuits are complete and kitten, it's a lot cheaper in the long run and better for dental hygiene! :)

My personal theory is they do this when the meats not much kop.

I agree with fluffy. If you do just feed dry get her something a bit better for her than whiskas.

Thanks for all comments, will try and get some better biscuits. My last cat had to have special biscuits only and it was so much easier for feeding, no mess or smell and worked out cheaper even though a bag cost £27, it lasted for ages.

My cat did this! She went right off her food (after years being perfectly fine with it), and would only lick off the jelly. So we tried her on Whiskas Soups - and she loves them, because it's basically just one big bowl of jelly/gravy. She now licks the plate clean - would highly recommend! :)
