Best Grooming Tool for Burmese?

My lovely Burmese boy has a very fine, short single coat. I groom him with a fine-toothed comb, and while this does remove loose hairs, it also just moves lots of them around in his coat instead of catching them. Can anyone suggest something that's better at catching all the loose hairs, but is also gentle (no scary Furminator type things, please!)?

When I got our two, the breeder recommended 'polishing' them with a piece of old silk. Grin

They have never been brushed in the intervening years, let alone polished!

Might be worth a try though. They are a lovely breed. I lost one of mine in the summer.

Thanks, Beryl, they are indeed great cats! I think he would enjoy being polished with silk, how luxurious (as if he isn't already a totally pampered puss!):)

Zoom Groom is really good and gentle.

Thanks, I'll look into Zoom Groom!

Absolutely agree with Zoom Groom. Pets@Home do their own brand which is cheaper.

I have a Zoom Groom, and even though MCat's not a Burmese, he has a similar thick, short glossy coat. It's the only brushing he'll tolerate.

I've always used something which I've discovered is called a 'backcombing brush', Minta. It's long and slender and has only 3 rows of bristles close to each other. (Loads on Amazon and mostly pretty cheap.) Seniorboy is Siamese and not Burmese but the coats are fairly similar I think? It takes out a great deal of loose hair from him.
