Just lost our beloved boy, unexpectedly.

Our lovely boy cat has just died on us this evening. He was only 7 and we'd had him for three and a half years as a rescue cat. I'm devastated. He had an appointment at the vet's in the morning. We have him now in his basket in the garage and will have to tell our two little children in the morning. I'm so so sad. I thought we had him for a good few years yet.

RIP MousynonCat Sad

I'm glad you had some extra time to fuss and love him. Flowers

Sorry to hear that Meemolly. We didn't know we needed a cat until we got our boy and now it feels already like there is a gap. We used to say he had concrete boots on as we would hear him stomping through the house on our wooden floors of an evening. Always making his presence known as he came in from nightly patrols with a loud meow. I can't hear anything now. Have you thought about another cat yet? I'm not sure whether we should just go out and get one soon to fill the inevitable void (but never as a replacement).

Oh he sounds so lovely and like he had made a sizeable cat space in your life! It's the loss of the normal everyday stuff they did which I found so hard. Our cat used to lie with us when I did the kids stories and it was so painful after she died not having her with us, trying to sit right in the middle of it all, as she did. I have looked at cat rescue websites as I miss having a cat terribly but my husband isn't keen yet and I don't know if it's too soon.

Thank you, you are all lovely. Sorry to all those who have found themselves in a similar position. Bloomin' pets. Making you love them and everything and then going and dying on you.

Our boy was also one for making his presence felt at story time. It is hard to read a story with a cat's bottom planted on the page, or trying to lay on the children's legs when they weren't so keen. I'm not sure I might be looking for a genetic copy of our boy if we went looking for another one.

I'm sorry for your loss I've unfortunately been there too this year. Flowers

Oh, poor boy. He'll be fine in the garage in this weather. What a horrible thing to happen.

Meemolly · 05/12/2016 21:05

Aww, yes I agree reading stories under those conditions is tricky but it doesn't seem quite the same without a fluffy one wanting to get involved! I am worried I will start searching for a copy of her, but fairly confident I won't find one. Still really miss her, she was so affectionate. So sorry again.
