My hyperthyroid old girl

My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last March. She was a rescue cat originally so precise age unknown, she came to us when she was between 1-2 and we think she is now about 15.
She's currently on 2 little orange tablets a day, which she is able to take quite happily by scoffing them hidden in a bit of easypill paste. She had been doing quite well, regular blood tests indicated the tablets were controlling things nicely, but just lately she seems to be losing weight again, and is very bony along back and base of tail. When first diagnosed she had been eating and drinking loads and losing weight but this time it's just the weight loss. Due to see the vet next week and I imagine they will do a blood test again, but I just wondered if the fluctuating weight sounded worrisome or if this is just an old cat thing into the bargain? She seems otherwise fine in herself...?

We had a cat who had thyroid problems for the last 5 of his 19.5 years. His weight would occasionally drop and it usually meant we had to tweak his medication (following our vets advice of course). He did, however, also suffer with kidney problems for his last couple of years as well and this definitely affected his weight and he did become quite thin.

My 19 year old girl has been on medication for hyperthyroidism for nearly 3 years, and she has never put back on the weight she lost. She was 5.4kg as a young cat, and is only about 3.5kg. She also has kidney failure now and is on another tablet called Fortecor which reduces the protein in her urine. She is much better in herself since this was started a few months ago. As long as she is eating well and happy in herself I am not worrying about her weight loss. I would have a low threshold for putting her to sleep if she stopped eating or was vomiting a lot. She hates vets and having blood tests.
