Unhappy cat after house move

We have just moved house with our 2 cats. I read lots of info on how best to do it without stressing cats out. Our little one is quite happy, currently sleeping in a sunny patch. The other one however has been hiding under the duvet for the past 2 hours. If I pull it back he just wriggles further under. I realise it's stressful and strange for them but I'm a bit worried about him. I don't think he's eating either. Any advice? I want them to be happy!

How long has it been? He's bound to be a bit confused by it all at first. Have you tried a Feliway Diffuser?

NotAPuffin · 30/11/2016 12:16

Two hours is nothing, I wouldn't worry. We moved in with my parents recently and it took one cat about three days to leave the sunroom. The other one paced constantly for about a week, learning the layout (she's brain damaged and her eyesight is bad so it's extra hard for her!) but they're perfectly comfortable now.

Unfortunately for them we're hoping to move into our new house in the next couple of weeks so they'll have to do it all again, but I'm not really worried - they settled in the end.

See if you can get a feliway diffuser. Stick some familiar toys under the duvet as well, or something with your smell on them :) I'm sure he'll be ok!

We moved them in yesterday so it's not been long. I went to get a diffuser but I'm reluctant to pay £30 for one so I bought the spray and I've been spraying it round the spare room where they are

Goodness - that's not long for a house move. Let him get on with his adjustment for a few days. (Under the duvet is better than it could be as well - he could be behind the cooker or something. Smile)

Are they cold at all?

cakesandphotos · 30/11/2016 14:15

True, they've never had such upheaval before. The new house is much warmer than the old so they shouldn't be cold. They have a bed by the radiator Smile

It was just that 'going under the duvet'. Smile

He has now emerged and is exploring the rest of the house. Thanks for all the advice! I feel better knowing it's not just my cats Smile

Ours hid in bed for a week last time we moved. Not like her at all.

She emerged eventually, we just let her sulk for a bit Grin

It was the coldest night if the year last night, don't blame him. If I could have been hiding under the duvet instead of scraping ice off the car outside and inside, I would have been!
