My 8 yr old Ragdoll collapsed and died this evening.

Don't suppose anyone is still around.

I am awake and stressing out.

DS found our 8yr old Ragdoll cat dead on the living room floor this evening. It was totally unexpected and sudden. Darling cat had been cuddled up in my lap and purring around 10 mins before. He has been eating and drinking normally, had a vet check last week (he was a sprayer despite being neutered) and was fine at that.

I literally went upstairs for 10 mins and then DS came rushing in to my bedroom to say that darling cat was dead. As it's a standing joke that the cat flops and just zonks out I thought he was joking, but no he really wasn't and my beautiful handsome boy was lying dead on our living room floor.

I suspect something cardiac and as his litter brother died at 20 weeks from HCM I think he may have had similar.

I am utter,y devastated though as he was such a cuddly lap cat, he was such a "mummy's boy" who adored a cuddle from me and I am going to miss him so so much.

He was the only pedigree I ever had as I take on rescues and hard to home cats usually (got two of those here too).

I keep wondering if I missed something but he was so well in himself and doing everything normally .

Don't know why I am posting really as nobody can do anything but I am just devastated.

Ah bless him x

Poor lad and poor you all. It would have been incredibly fast though. He likely would just have had his normal fun and love-filled day until it happened. That's how I think of my own boy going, anyway.

I'd maybe let the breeder know if you can - at some point. It would likely make no difference to her current breeding arrangements but if she's now testing for HCM, it could aid her stance on that.

I am so sorry for your loss. At least he didn't suffer. Hope you are managing to eat and get through the day - your darling boy would never want you to be sad.

So sorry for your loss Flowers

Heart felt sympathy to you all on your sad loss. Flowers

I'm so sorry for your terrible loss. Losing a fur baby is the worst feeling in the world. At least you can find comfort in the fact that he didn't suffer.

Im sure he would want you to share the love that he benefited from when he was with you :) will you be getting another cat? Sometimes the best thing to help us heal is to have the distraction of a new cat to love.

Alfieisnoisy · 02/12/2016 12:09

Thank you Araminta.

I have two other catas so I won't be adding another just yet. I generally go for rescues and hard to re-home cats...Alfie was a sprayer..a nightmare for it. My carpets are ruined but I loved him anyway.

I did find myself looking at pictures of Ragdoll kittens last night but the risk of the HCM gene puts me off. I will stick to non pedigree cats in future where there is less chance of this. It was just too utterly heartbreaking.
We are over the initial shock now but we miss him.
