Cat stuck on neighbours roof

My poor cat has been stuck on a neighbours roof from around 5pm. She has cried so much her meow is hoarse now from crying. I'm 7 months pregnant and can't get her down at all.. I've tried treats, cat food and her laser pen. The roof is very steep and everytime she goes to make a move down she loses courage and goes back up. It's so cold outside and I don't know what to do. Normally I'd wait a bit longer before getting worried but it's been almost 5 hours and it's to be minus 2 here tonight. All advice from rspca online says wait for at least 48 hours, but how can she stay up there for two days in this freezing weather! Has anyone has anything similar happen to their cat or have any advice? Xx

Ah, glad she's safe and sound. Roofer rescuers sound like very nice people.

GRW · 22/11/2016 20:15

That's brilliant news, so glad she is safe, warm and fed now.

LivingInMidnight · 22/11/2016 20:17

Brilliant! Wonder how she got up there!

ozymandiusking · 22/11/2016 20:20

So pleased for you that you have got her down. What we do for these cats, we love them.

Papergirl1968 · 22/11/2016 20:44

Ahh, bet you're both so relieved!

viques · 22/11/2016 20:50

What lovely roofers! I think you ought to contact your local paper and tell them the story ,at the very least it will give the roofers a bit of free positive publicity, and your cat will get its picture in the paper too!

Cheerybigbottom · 22/11/2016 21:04

Second the post by Viques, what lovely people they were to help you!

Cheerycat1 used to like scaling roofs in his younger days but thankfully nothing we couldn't rescue him from. Glad your adventurer is home safe.

nothruroad · 22/11/2016 21:14

Very glad she's okay!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/11/2016 21:19

Phew! x

Vinorosso74 · 22/11/2016 21:50

Hopefully she's learnt not to go up there again. Cats ay?! Well done to the roofers!

Thirding the suggestion from viques to get the local press involved. Good publicity for the local roofers - though they might get more call-outs to do rescues.

It seems many people (including the RSPCA) don't realise that a cat can get up to high places but not get down again. A while ago, I was watching an "Animal Cops" programme on TV which involved a cat rescue from a very tall tree. It was explained that cats go up easily, but they want to come down facing forwards. Cat's paws grip to surfaces like roof tiles when going up, but their paws can slide when trying to come down. Sure I wouldn't want to try that. And cats dig in their claws going up a tree, but their claws are at the wrong angle when trying to come down a tree face-forwards. Such a simple explanation that seemingly few people know about, and certainly I didn't.

So very good to hear that she's now safely home. Hope she doesn't do it again.

So happy to hear that she is home.

Aquiver · 23/11/2016 16:17

Aww so pleased. You (and cat) must be so relieved!

I would definitely get on Facebook / Twitter to give that roofing company some really positive feedback!

AmyInTheBoonies · 23/11/2016 16:23

Fantastic she has been rescued. What a relief.

Also I am pleased I know it's a roofer I need if this ever happens to my own dear cat!
