If you have a really unloving , disinterested cat...

Is there anything you can do to improve things?
I've always had cats... all 49 years of my existence and I am pretty experienced.
Obie is.. an asshole cat.
His sister is timid but sweet and affectionate. He is not. He is six dinner Sid... we know he not only eats, but sleeps in at least 3 houses down our street. He is no nicer there! He wanders in, eats, kips for a while and slopes off again! He cuddles no one.
If I honestly thought he would be happier with another 'owner' I would give him up (despite being a bloody expensive pedigree) but he doesn't seem to like anyone! He treats us like a Premier Inn...wanders in, stuffs his face, kips for a while and goes off again. Hates being cuddled, shows zero affection.
Having had Morph for many years who adored us all, I find it really hard to have a cat that does not give a shit about anyone. I want to be able to stroke him, hear a purr, pick him up... or at least have him acknowledge my existence.
Is there ANYTHING I can do?

I don't think it has anything to do with his breed.. he's my 3rd Maine Coon and my other current one is very affectionate, and his predecessor was the love of my life and a velcro cat. He is only two but he has been like this all the way.
He is only two tho so maybe he will get nicer in a decade!

My boy isn't a lap cat but he sometimes kisses me - nuzzles my face. He also does a lot of head bunting and likes to sleep between my knees on the bed. I think he loves me but he doesn't snuggle up or give me the adoring looks that for example Hollinghurst's Ollie does. I guess they're all different. He's only two so may turn into a lap cat as he gets older. Actually most of the time I'm not sorry he's not a lap cat - he is a fair weight!

I am with you guys, hopefully hanging on for when they are a bit older and mature a bit! My old girl was a bit arthritic too so I think my lap became more appealing in her latter years. New cat is still so playful and loves being outside, so maybe one day when she calms down a bit she'll show a bit more love. She does like to be near us and will plop down in a doorway to be close, so I think she loves us in her own way....!

All of our cats have mellowed and become more affectionate as they've aged, to the point of being clingy and ultimate lap cats Smile

The most drastic change was when we moved house and they went from free roaming cats to house cats with safe access to the outdoors. Infinitely more affectionate, loving and interested in us. It was also when we finally managed to build up a relationship with an extremely timid rescue we'd had for years.
