Does your cat have a cat bed?

We bought a cat bed for our cat when we first got her 13 years ago. She ignored it and slept wherever the fancy took her. Eventually we got rid of it.

She has favourite sleeping places and she changes them up regularly. Her current one is on top of a board game box someone has left in the living room.

It doesn't look very cosy or comfortable for an elderly moggy so I thought I should buy her a proper bed.

If your cat has their own bed do they actually sleep in it?? Thanks.

Those whelping pads look good, Wolfie. I assume they can be left on continuously (on low, possibly) if desired?

IAmAPaleontologist · 25/10/2016 18:14

Yes he has one of those little igloo ones which I bought for when we got him as a kitten because we have 3 very excitable children and he does use it a fair bit as he can hide from the kids there. He uses it less and less though now both he and the children are a bit bigger. He cycles round from sleeping spot to sleeping spot during the day. He likes to start a sunny morning on my bed or up innthe loft on dd's bed which both get lots of sun then work his way downstairs to the sofa. Currently his fave spot is the armchair by the stove, sensible cat.

I have a cat bed, it's a king size bed with a memory foam mattress, I just sleep huddled up where there isn't a cat in the way. Woke up this morning and there is one cat wrapped round my head and another that had pushed me almost to the edge while he was stretched out in a nice star shape.

Palomb · 25/10/2016 18:22

Nope. Two cats and two children who's beds they share. The cats have learned it's not in their best interest to disturb me at night.

We did have cat beds but they never used them
So we got rid.

cozietoesie · 25/10/2016 18:24

I had a single bed. The cat slept long - and I got 6".

I bought a double bed. The cat slept diagonally - and I got 6".

Now I have a king size bed. The cat sleeps horizontally - and I still get 6"! Grin

Our cat has a selection of beds; her summer bed on a window seat where she can view her kingdom, a fluffy winter bed on the boiler for cold weather, a special spot in the airing cupboard, a heat reflective mat by the log burner and her super-king Egyptian cotton for when she has muddy paws.
She is most definitely not over indulged.

Yeees. And no, she prefers to sleep in a box. Any box, whether empty or otherwise.

If I have a lie in she simply transfers to my head the bed with me.

Janey50 · 25/10/2016 18:27

Yes. But she never used it,despite it being in a cosy corner for almost a year. She prefers to choose her own sleeping places, and changes it approximately every 3 weeks. In the last year, she has chosen:-
In the bath/bathroom sink (when the weather was hot).
On my bed (if I let her).
My bedroom window sill (when the sun is on that side of the house).
An empty box that had a bathroom corner unit in.

Edhilaria · 25/10/2016 18:29

They have night time beds which go in the kitchen. During the day they prefer human beds, sofas, clean laundry, the airing cupboard, chairs, human chests and laps, basically anywhere but their beds.

Janey50 · 25/10/2016 18:30

Posted too soon! Suffice to say,we have now put the cat bed away as it was just gathering dust. Her current fave sleeping place is on top of my DGD's discarded school backpack. Confused Nice and hard and lumpy.

Lanaorana1 · 25/10/2016 18:37

Yes. In the manner of nobility through the ages, the servant lies shivering under a thin blanket at the base of the bed.

Soubriquet · 25/10/2016 18:42

Yes! She sleeps in it every night

In fact, I get up to go to bed and she races me up there and gets in her own bed on the landing

RatOnnaStick · 25/10/2016 18:46

Yep. One does, one doesn't. The Snowshoe is happy in his bed in the utility room at night, and he likes the fake lambswool cat mat that sits on the sofa. The Lion prefers my full washing basket Hmm. They both go for the underfloor-heated bathroom tiles. Funny that.

IlsaLund · 25/10/2016 18:50

She does have a bed, but her favourite spot at the moment is in the stick basket, on top of the chopped up splintery sticks.

Previous favourite spots include on top of the boiler, the top of a door (on the narrow top) under the settee, windowsills, in the dogs smelly bed and in the bathroom sink.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/10/2016 20:01

One cat has 3, she uses it all the time, the other has one and a custom made cushion on order. When I first got them I bought wicker transport baskets you took the doors off to use as beds. They would t touch them until I put one away before chucking it out. Now they both use it. Discovered they will only use fluffy or fleece beds. Bought snorgmaiden a new bed the other day as hers was dirty. And her sister jumped straight in it. (She usually prefers the back of the sofa or my favourite cushion.) so she's having a new cushion made to match her sisters basket.

Found a fantastic company at the supreme cat show on Saturday. Their beds are gorgeous. And hand made. Lazy days pet beds.Grin

DramaAlpaca · 25/10/2016 20:09

I got our old cat a bed, but he ignored it as cats do. However, when I got a heated pad to put in it he decided he likes it & now he sleeps in it all the time.

cozietoesie · 25/10/2016 20:20

There used to be an old saying that 'cats will always find the warmest spot in a house'.

There's some truth to it. Smile

DramaAlpaca · 25/10/2016 20:24

Yes cozie, my old boy used to love sleeping in the airing cupboard, until he got too old & arthritic to jump up onto the shelves. We'd regularly find him curled up in a ball on a pile of towels.

The Lodger liked the airing cupboard. Smile

RatImpaledOnnaStake · 25/10/2016 20:36

When DH was growing up his cat Thomas liked to curl up on top of the oil boiler around the flue pipe Smile. He was an adventurous old bugger, blind in the end, deaf and slightly senile but he always knew his way back to his warm spot. And that's where they found him one morning, passed away curled up around the pipe, warm to the very end Smile

Natsku · 25/10/2016 20:36

She sleeps in our bed. She won't go up to bed until I do and if I dare go up without carrying her with me she meows pitifully from downstairs. Her favourite spot to sleep is on my head or, if I roll over, on my pillow. She takes her naps on the sofa usually.

OverScentedFanjo · 25/10/2016 20:37

My cat owns the top shelf in the airing cupboard. He is a bit creaky now, but still manages to climb up given half a chance.

hollinhurst84 · 25/10/2016 21:02

Yes. He never used it or the shaped scratch box. Then I stacked the bed on the box and shoved it behind the door (the bed goes in a dip and makes a sort of nest) and now it's the BEST THING EVER HmmConfused
