What do you think dreamies etc taste like?

Is it like giving them a bag of haribos? My girl wont touch dry food. Ive tried everything. Ive tried every brand. I just think while im at work it would be really handy if she'd have some dry food as i dont think wet food in a timer for 8 hours is ideal.

Treats however..... She goes mad for them. As long as they're in a cardboard box. She eats all kinds hard, soft, hard with soft middles. Have i turned her into a goody face like my nieces? Ive tried to pretend the dry food is a treat but she flatly refuses to chase it. Im exhausted what with the 4am ear plug removals she does. I wouldnt change her for the world but im totally at her beck and call.

If Dd could talk I could ask her. She regularly takes her life in her hands stealing the cats dreamies from under his nose. I've caught her eating the wet cat food too, she was shoving handfuls of it in her mouth.

Oh Munch he is very lovely, they are alike!

You know when wet food says complementary does that mean they should be eating dry as well? I'm new to all this! I just do what she tells me.

Complementary means its not a complete diet. I wouldn't bother with it, just give her a wet one labelled complete. Good brands are Nature's Menu and Thrive. The higher meat content the better.

I tend to think of treats the same as human treats - they taste nicer than "proper" meals, and will fill you up if you eat lots, but not just a couple.
Same with different types of food - you'll often find the cats prefer the taste of lower quality foods. (Think 2 year old given a choice between McDonald's and home cooking).

I did try a dog biscuit once, along with a few workmates - they looked really nice with nice sounding flavours, but tasted awful. Apparently the dogs love them though.

Re the wet and dry food, you get different recommendations from different people. Supposedly dry food is better for teeth, and wet for weight, kidneys and urinary system. We give ours wet with a small amount of dry available, but you can use whatever works best for yours.

I've always imagined them to taste like those little bags of snacks you could buy in pubs, (can't remember their name), but they'd be displayed behind the bar like a wall-hanging of crispy coated cheese snacks, alongside the Scampi Fries. Sort of like small square Cheese-balls?

I was a happy girl when Burtons(?) reinstated their delicious fish and chip shaped bags of deliciousness.

Don't do only dry. Its unfortunately caught on because its cheap to produce and convenient for owners. Its not good for cats, they don't have a strong thirst drive, being desert creatures, they've evolved to get water from their food. Before I knew this I gave one of my mine primarily dry and now she's a junkie, it took forever to wean her onto wet. To this day if she gets a taste of dry she's yelling for more all day.

This site is a lot to take in, but its credentials are impeccable. She's helpfully made a short version you can download as a pdf from the first page.

I didn't have a choice about only feeding Harry dry food, he wouldn't eat any wet no matter what brand it was. We spoke to the vet and she was happy providing he drinks and that it was good quality (James Wellbeloved).

When he broke his jaw he had to have wet and he now has a pouch of Natures Menu in the evening but we still give him dry for breakfast and lunch. When we go on holiday he's on dry only as it's easier to bag up for the cat sitter.

Oh and he looks at Dreamies as if they are poison!

Allergictoironing · 09/10/2016 09:18

My 2 adore each other - they prefer to eat from the same bowl (2 bowls down, but they eat one together then the other), they snuggle up together, they play together, they slink around together caressing each other with their rather prehensile tails - until the dreamies come out. Then it's every cat for him/her self. barging the other out of the way with prejudice and gobbling them down as though they've not seen food for weeks. Definitely crack for mine.

One of DSis's cats likes them, the other just looks at her with puzzlement "why are you offering me this?".

YesItsMeIDontCare · 09/10/2016 09:19

I'd ask Leroy but

  1. He doesn't talk human.
  2. He swallows the bloody things whole.
Broken1Girl · 09/10/2016 09:29

Similarly to Mantra I think of them as like crisps - mini Cheddars etc and yes the fish and chip flavour thingies.
Madam BrokenCat loves them. She is chubby fuller figured so only gets them at the weekend now.

RubbishMantra · 09/10/2016 19:09

Back away from the Fish n Chips Yes, hands where I can see them! They're mine, all mine. All of them.

Sadly, it's all empty threats. I don't get my delivery until tomorrow. Sad

Remembered the pub snack I thought Dreamies might taste like though was - Cheese moments! They look remarkably similar.

TheNoodlesIncident · 13/10/2016 12:06

I ate some cat "milk drops" as I was starving (teenager style).

Turns out I'd rather starve.

My cat will eat Dreamies (The vet said "I wish I'd bought shares in those things" in his delightful Irish accent swoon when I gave her a couple to calm her down) but seems to have gone off food completely Sad I thought she must be tired of roast chicken, but she's not really interested in anything. The kibbles I put down last night are mostly still there.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/10/2016 22:33

Well the wiskars temptations have gone down very well. But they both refused point blank to eat the cream and milk lic e lix. One of them also refused the liver one but her hoover of a sister had hers. Took about 10 min for her to eat it though. Chicken and salmon usually inhaled in seconds!
