New kitten hates me :(

Help!
We have 4 cats, we've had loads of cats and yet I have never experienced this before...I've also never had a kitten quite so tiny.
So kitten is 12 weeks old.
Arrived yesterday, we got him out the box, fussed him, he purred, he curled up and slept and all was good. We went out gave him just one room with food/litter etc
When we came back he refused to come out his box and hissed lots.
We thought he may be overwhelmed so moved him to a much smaller room, spoke to him, left him, went back and spoke a bit more. Last night he was in his room.
Hes eaten food, not been to the toilet in 24 hours, not even a wee
I cant go near him without him hissing, I tried ignoring the hissing and stroke his head like I did yesterday (that was what made him purr) but he just carried on hissing so I've stopped.

I get he may well be overwhelmed but he seems genuinely terrified and its so odd that at the breeders he was loving, first home loving and now he's terrified.

The room he's in is the front porch so about 1 metre by 2 metres
No cats have been in there so their smell cant upset him
The other cats cant get to him

Any ideas??

You're his Mum now. Smile

Covered litter tray, with the flap taken off for now, to stop the hurling of poo and litter? You can re-instate the flappy door once he's used to using his litter-box.

Fluffy, try a few coats of waterproof sealant on all sides of the skirting boards, before putting them into place, sealing the gap between wall and skirting boards/ flooring with one of those silicone gun things and then painting?

Little M didn't cry for his mum/siblings even once. I think he was basking in all the attention. He's like a little rock-star. Grin Very different breeds though.

Ah, X posted. That sounds all good. Smile

OP, how do think he'd cope of you put a litter box, food, water, dry kitten food to snack on overnight into your bedroom? With the door closed. Or do you feel it's too soon for that?

I've only had moggies, and now a Devon Rex, and he spent his first night (and most other nights asleep between ddDH and I. I always wake up with him on the pillow next to me , unless he's cold, and scratches at the covers for me to let him into bed, where he will sleep with his head on the pillow, like a human.

I appreciate they're very different breeds though, with different characteristics. My Devon is like a less refined Siamese, severely lacking in manners.

The problem with our room is its our moggy cats 'safe place' he's the only one allowed in there and comes and goes of a night-time through the window, to bring the kitten in means shutting moggy out.
We've had the kitten in the lounge and played lots, we've now given him cupboard and hallway, bengals have the other half of the bungalow and are now sniffing round the lounge!!
The mess of the tray isn't an issue it's super easy to clear up and none of our others have lids on theirs, we have large clear plastic storage boxes so they can see all around and kick litter to their hearts content.
I'm super pleased with progress today, this evening he's been just like a 'tv advert kitten' the next huge hurdle is getting all cats to meet. We'll continue to swap smells and see how they are in a few days for supervised meetings.
Thank you for all your advice so far, it is so nice having people to sense check with

Rubbish I hadn't thought of that, thank you. I don't want real wood after all the problems Dh had at his last house.

ClarkL · 08/09/2016 12:12

GARGH! Not really linked to the kitty but last night moggy arrives home through the bedroom window as usual, both husband and I woke thinking something was wrong, assumed it was a mouse/live present as he was dashing all about the room. Turns out he has a burst absyss.
This morning he has an emergency trip to the vets, a shave, antibiotic jab and pain relief as its super sore bless him, my totally chilled out kitty was growling like a good un and the vet didn't believe me when I said he was friendly!
However moggy and biggest bengal don't always see eye to eye and now he's poorly biggest bengal has been stalking him, so I have big bengal restricted to conservatory and my office.
Moggy can't obviously cant go outside with an open wound but also cant be near kitten as vet said kitten is super prone to infection at his age, so they also need to be kept separate, they did actually meet yesterday and moggy totally ignored the kitten, sniffed his food bowl and sauntered off (moggy is the one who brings all the ferals round and point to food bowls!). so Moggy is restricted to my bedroom to avoid infection and kitten has hallway and lounge.

I need a bigger house!!

Houses are a bit like purses as far as cats go - the required contents expand to fill the space available! Grin

ClarkL · 08/09/2016 17:05

There is definitely no more room for any more kittens, although as my husbands just sold his house perhaps I can convince him we need somewhere bigger. Left wing for the kids, right wing for me and the cats?!

Jack Russell in a cat onesie!!!!
Brilliant, they are like utterly mad teenagers and if I didn't work from home having so many they would be utterly bored. I did foster a siamese who wasn't doing so well at the cat shelter, we had her for about 6 weeks and I totally fell in love with her, my girl bengal hated her though and there was simply no way of integrating her. She yelled when lonely (all the time!) when she wanted food, when she'd gone to the loo. Everyone told me siamese are more vocal than bengals but actually they are on a par. Except she was super loving which the bengals aren't!

I'm on a bengal FB group and the thing that really stands out is new owners asking what to expect, The answer is chaos, a tiny toddler running round your house and you best keep it entertained. Even then its a total shock if you've only ever had moggy cats before and yet I utterly adore everyone and their quirky personalities

It was fb, thank you.

ClarkL · 09/09/2016 15:06

it's quite a nice group, good mix of UK and US people and whilst you can predict most responses to questions it doesn't often get nasty, when it does its shut down relatively quickly
