My poor lovely cat Coco isn't very well - I'm so worried :((

She's only one year old and is a ragdoll.

Yesterday she was absolutely fine, eating, running around with her friend, coming straight to the door when we arrived home, running to the sound of food.

Today she has spent the whole day dragging herself aroun, not eating at all , hiding from us and just sort of sits in front of her water dish but can't bring herself to drink Sad. So I took her straight to the vet who said she can't find anything obvious wrong, it might be an infection and have her antibiotics and critical care food. She said if she's not eaten by to,or row she needs to be admitted for drip feeding and run tests to see if it's her kidneys. I've just held her like a baby and syringes water into her mouth.

I'm so worried & she's so young :(( does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing.

Can you give her some extra and suitable toys as a substitute as well? Smile Is there anything else she likes to bat particularly?

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 06/08/2016 15:24

You can buy plastic cotton reels (without the thread) from the early learning centre. My ds has some.

Lottielou7 · 06/08/2016 16:19

But it's unfortunate that it's the cotton she likes - she's not interested in empty ones. We have loads and loads of toys but she seems to have particular preferences for certain household objects. We have a purple 'bun helper' hair accessory which we use for my dd and if you hear a loud 'purrrr-meow ' sound, you can be sure she's got that in her mouth. I think I'll bin those to be on the safe side too. Our other cat prefers conventional toys although he will also try to eat sellotape and other inappropriate things!

Try some socks - a pair of them rolled up into that sort of very thick sausage thing. Preferable hiking-type socks if you have any. And leave the roll lying behind the sofa or something. (For some reason, some cats much prefer things they find themselves to things which are offered to them.)

Preferably

Lottielou7 · 06/08/2016 20:05

Thanks cozie. We'll have to really make sure this sort of thing can't happen again because our other cat also has some strange habits and we've often caught them both trying to eat things they aren't supposed to.

The vet said that lengths of string are particularly dangerous because they can do a lot of damage to the intestines. I could see she was obviously uncomfortable because she wasn't sleeping at all (I thought if she was 'ill' she would probably be sleeping) so I had a feeling it could be something like this. But we're going to have to make sure there are no little bits of anything under my daughters beds or anywhere that they could chew/swallow in the future.

Wonderful news!

Lottielou7 · 07/08/2016 14:28

I'm happy to say that she's home now. She wouldn't eat their food they were giving her but I knew that was likely to be because she's very fussy and only really likes dry food anyway.

Since we've brought her home, she's been following me around, purring and has eaten some food. Now she's asleep but I've had to separate her from our other cat because he wants to play with her and she's really not in the mood!

The vet said we had a very lucky escape because the thread only went down as far as her stomach and they didn't need to actually operate so she was saved the trauma of that at least.

She's looking very pleased with herself!

Lottielou7 · 08/08/2016 21:38

Usually it's dogs who eat weird random Stuff apparently. We've had moggies before who would never have eaten weird foreign objects - our other cat also tries to do other dangerous stuff! We've had such a lucky escape. The vets have been brilliant with her too - so kind.

How is she? Smile

Lottielou7 · 09/08/2016 18:07

She's fine thanks cozie - she seems to be back to her old self pretty much. She's still following us around the house which she tends to do anyway. It's nice to see her looking relaxed.

Good for her. Smile
