Just lost my old girl

Posted on here a couple of days ago about what to feed my elderly 18 yr old cat. Sadly this morning I had to take her to the vets and make the heart breaking decision to put her to sleep. She went into chronic heart failure.
The vet said we could try and treat her but it most likely wouldn't be successful. Or take her home and she would take a couple of weeks to die. Or have her put to sleep at the surgery, which was what he recommended. It was a horrible decision and not the ending I wanted for her, it wasn't a particulary peaceful end as she was struggling for breathSad
I know she had a long happy life with us but just feel so sad today, I am very tearful and wish it could have been a better ending. Really I wanted her to go to sleep at home and not wake up but being a typical cat she did it the hard way!
Sorry for long post I just wanted to get it down.

Ah Posie I was on your other thread. I'm really sorry to hear you've lost your lovely old girl Flowers

You made absolutely the right decision at the right time. I know how hard that is. Take care x

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/07/2016 07:43

Thank you. Very strange getting up this morning and no loud mews to greet me. I want to say again how much all of your comments have helped me. I feel at peace with my decision this morning. MN is a truly wonderful place.

Please keep posting for support. I know I found it very hard when my cat was pts at the end of November last year and I found talking helped.

Wordsaremything · 18/07/2016 21:47

I understand completely about being at peace with the decision. Their passing does still leave such an aching void though. Xxx

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/07/2016 21:55

Today I have just felt the absence of a cat in my house. Its so strange. She's not there to get under my feet and annoy me! That sounds daft but i know all you cat lovers will understand. Stupid things like I don't have to shut the lounge door anymore at night (she had our large lounge and kitchen as her domain at night times with catflap to the outside) I just miss herSad I have a busy job and two very dear DS, and a wonderful husband who has been so supportive of my grief when he could have just told me to pull myself together. But my house does not feel like a home without a cat in it. How can such a small animal leave such a large hole?
Sorry for self indulgence. I am just sad.

OK I will be completely outing myself if anyone knows me IRL but never mind. Here are some pictures of my Molly. Like I said she slept in some crazy places!

What a beautiful cat.

The loss is awful. You miss being woken up at some awful hour etc.

KittiesInsane · 18/07/2016 22:27

That is an entirely logical set of cat sleeping places. A cat needs to be noticed, after all.

On a staircase/middle of kitchen floor is also a perfect spot.

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/07/2016 22:31

Thank you. Kitties yes you are right and you have made me smileSmile Cats are a bit bonkers really aren't they?

My old girl is sitting on the fishtank lid at the moment so that I can't lift it to feed the fish.

She quite likes a bit of fish flake of an evening. Would probably prefer the fish themselves if she could hook one, though.

OliviaStabler · 19/07/2016 07:57

My cat likes to get onto the chair when you get up to have a cup of tea or glass of wine and then stays put when you want to sit back down Smile

cozietoesie · 19/07/2016 09:31

She looked great! Smile ( I reckon that sitting the middle of a field of Lego gives rise to some serious questions about her complete sanity but Hey Ho.)

They leave such a hole in your life when they go.

KittiesInsane · 19/07/2016 10:03

I love the curled up, nose in tail pose in most of your photos, Posie.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/07/2016 12:53

Ah thanks for your comments. Kitties and Olivia your cats sound wonderfully cat like! Yes, she did a good curled up do not disturb pose! Cozie she was undoubtedly bonkers, the lego was one of her favourite spots, crazy cat!
Got a sympathy card from the vets today which was really thoughful. (And perhaps a gentle reminder that I walked out of the vets in floods of tears without paying oops!)

OliviaStabler · 19/07/2016 13:16

Posie I doubt the card was a reminder to pay, they know that in distress people forget things but know they go back when they are up to it to settle up.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/07/2016 13:18

No its OK I was being a bit tongue in cheek, I will have to go back to settle up when I collect her ashes, I actually thought it was really sweet of them to send it, just made me feel a bit guilty!

They're people - they become involved with their clients.

I recall going into Seniorboy's practice recently and on remarking that people seemed a bit glum - putting it mildly - found out that they'd had a couple of bad cases the previous day and one of the pets hadn't made it. They were rocked by it.

No need to feel guilty at all.

dingit · 19/07/2016 13:27

I'm sitting hear crying reading this thread. Op, I'm so sorry for you, it's so hard losing a pet.
My girl is asleep on the bbq bizarrely, but it's shady and she's cool.

Wolfiefan · 19/07/2016 13:34

We got a card from out bet when we lost our old girl. I did pay when I left in floods of tears as I didn't want an invoice through the post.
What a beautiful puss.
It's daft the way we think of them a million times a day. Washing machine is going on. Where is cat? Having a cold drink? Put an ice cube in theirs to keep it cool? Hoovering? Now whilst they are out? Slow cooker on? Keep it away from the edge of the work top. Moving feet in bed? Don't. Just don't!!

Vinorosso74 · 19/07/2016 13:38

Sorry for your loss, 18 is a very good age. What a beautiful cat she was, I like the sleeping spots!
I was clearing a cupboard out recently and found a sympathy card from the vets we used to take our previous cat to. He died in 2007 and seeing it made my cry.
Staff in vets will get to know some of the animals and clients well so it must be tough when some of their favourites pass away.

cozietoesie · 19/07/2016 13:43

Seniorboy is sent a Xmas card by his practice. Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/07/2016 15:16

You lot are awesome. You have honestly helped me process this by understanding what I am feeling. Does it sound odd to say that this thread feels like a little memorial to Molly and all your lovely cats who have left us? I am also going to order a small stone with her name on to place in the garden where we bury her ashes. Have seen some on amazon and ebay that look like a pebble, I think something small for a small puss would be apt.
And Flowers again for all of you who have lost a beloved pet.
