My Poorly Boy

Over the weekend I noticed my cat's eyes looked sore and then his third eyelid came across and he's wasn't eating much. Luckily DH was off so could get him straight to the vet this morning. I assumed he had an eye infection but our vet found that one side of his tongue is ulcerated. Vet thinks he might have got something caustic on his paws and licked it off. No idea how or where this could have happened. He doesn't have a temperature but she's given him antibiotics and painkillers. I'm just not convinced that's what has happened. I had a cat a few years ago who had ulcers on his tongue and all around his mouth and he had something called, I think, the caliche (sp) virus? He was really poorly for a couple of weeks and had to be syringe fed but went on to make a full recovery.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Yes mine have been exactly the same. I cannot even begin to imagine how they must be feeling in this heat with all that fur. Are your cats fluffy cats too? Angus, Archie's brother, has spent most of the day in the fields opposite. He hides in the hedgerow where it's cool. Archie is still staying close to home but I notice he was moving around the garden following the shade.

On a good note, Archie seems much brighter and his third eyelid has retracted completely now. Hard to say if he's still a bit lethargic or it's the heat. I think probably the later. Here's a photo I took earlier tonight. You can see he looks much brighter Smile

He looks in much better shape now and good news about his eyelids retracting. Onwards and upwards!
Mine are all short haired and I managed to get them easily enough tonight, I think they are exhausted. The girls stay nearer home, but my boy Vinnie goes into the fields around us. I do worry about ticks as there are sheep and cattle in the fields although I do use Frontline. He used to be such a wuss until we moved here, as he was a stray who adopted us, but now he is getting very confident. He is the easiest to get in of a night I think he appreciates having a home! Another hot day tomorrow for us all to enjoy.
