Do you wash your hands everyone you touch your cat?

With regards to animals there always seem to be the response of make sure you wash your hands after you have touched your cat or dog or rabbit whatever.

If I washed my hands every time I touched my cat I would have no skin left!!

The only time I really wash my hands is understandably after I have done her litter tray.

I'm just getting up at 3-4 o'clock in the morning, as she's going 3-4 hours between feeds, and she's just over 2 weeks now so weaning and litter tray are looming in the couple of weeks, and she won't be so dependant on me

Costacoffeeplease · 26/06/2016 16:42

Next couple of weeks!!

That's good then. Least it's not every hour or so

Only after changing the litter tray or clearing up furballs!

I'm jealous of all of you with more than one cat!

I have to wash my hands every time.

I am very allergic to my cat (allergy appeared a long time after getting her and as she is now nearly 21 I just have to keep taking the tablets, not let her in my room and wash my hands after touching her)

Aww, the baby kitty! So gorgeous.
I'm very jealous! I adore cats, so having that many would be amazing. Grin

Definitely not. I have bad contact dermatitis and get my hands wet as seldom as I can manage, but I get them catty as often as possible.

Don't have cat at the moment - but I didn't used to wash them unless I was preparing food or about to eat. But then I suppose I would also sit on the sofa and eat some crisps or something whilst stroking cat... so yeah bsically no I didn't wash hands.

DigestiveBiscuit · 27/06/2016 17:49

Only after clearing out the litter tray or before handling food. They are not allowed on the dining room table or the work surfaces in the kitchen! When the have knocked the lid off the butter dish and eaten some, we throw it away! Otherwise, I am not bothered - I've lived with cats all my life and never caught anything off one!

Everything in my house is considered either "catty" (sofa, TV remotes, books that are out for reading, sideboard) or "non-catty" (kitchen, dining table, everything in the bathroom and bedrooms) so I wash my hands when transferring from touching anything catty (including cats) to anything non-catty. I always wash after doing food and litter too.

If I'm sitting on the sofa with a cat and a bag of crisps, I use one hand to stroke the cat and the other to eat the crisps, so the crisps don't get catty.

No.

All my bonded boys have slept in the same bed as me so it would be rather pointless. I just try to observe standard good hygiene.
