How can I stop my cat scratching the sofa?

She's occasionally scratched sofas in the past, but not as bad as this! She's completely ruining them. She has a scratching post, goes outside several times a day etc. Is there anything I can spray to deter her? I did a quick Google search but there are so many results, I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for something that actually did work for them? Thanks

What kind of material is it?.

Yes, put catnip on her scratching posts and spray feliway on the sofa or a citrus spray called Pet Behave which is a strong smell ( I love it!) but I've had success with stopping the cat scratch the stair carpet.

I've tried literally everything and never managed to stop my two. Given up now Sad

It's a fabric sofa. She's completely ruining it :(

We say pssst loudly and chase them off. Every time. Shut her out when you aren't there.
Try a different type of cat scratching thing? Mine love carpet!

Put scratching posts infront of the bits she's scratching - encourage her to use it anyway that works, might be catnip, for mine it was getting her to chase string onto it then she realised it felt nice to scratch. Try a feliway or pet remedy plug in.

More scratching posts/ mats? We have something in every room. Cheap door mats are good.

I think fabric is just like one big scratch post yo them. Ours only scratched the fabric sofa. He ignored the leather one.

We've always had fabric sofas but she's taken a real liking to this one.

Downstairs is all open plan so I have nowhere to shut her at night. I have to keep her downstairs because she wakes dd up when she's upstairs by meowing.

I can't put anything in front of it the sofas as it's all 4 corners she's doing and dd would just move the stuff out of the way. If sprays are no good, the only other thing I can think of doing is putting some fabric on the corners maybe.

Thinking about it she does scratch my mums leather sofa too. Just not as badly as she's doing to mine right now

You can buy plastic stick on things for sofa corners.

CraftyPenguin · 24/06/2016 20:25

On closer inspection, it's the back of one of them too. That's not such an issue though as that's harder to see.

We bought cardboard scratch pad thingy majiggy to hopefully lean up the arms and such. Sofa (lol) he hasn't scratched the arms.

Try a different type of scratching post. My pair scratched the sofa a lot but it reduced loads when I got a different type of scratching post. Thank god for ikea removable covers though!
