I have an obese mog!

I have a cat who thinks he is a Labrador- greedy and very affectionate. After his check up in January the vet suggesting swapping to more dry food as his tartar needed some help.

So he has a small amount of dry food morning and night and occasional pouches instead.

And has gained a jeffing kilo!!

Anyone had similar? I've been advised to cut his dry stuff back by 20% which seems titchy by will do it. He virtually never gets treats and we don't have any neighbours who might be feeding him.

I'm bewildered!

These pictures of all the fatty catties with their fluffy tummies is making me so happy Smile

BeBesideTheSea · 25/06/2016 13:30

Not much stalking. She sits on a fence watching then drops down and comes out with a mouse. More falcon style than cat!!

I really don't want to feed her wet food as I am veggie and it makes me heave.

Maybe she should get all her food from hunting?

SoupDragon · 25/06/2016 14:38

I have a image of a fat cat dropping out of the sky like a rock and squishing the mouse :o

Fat cat.. On iams measures out. She gets practically zero exercise she wakes up eats goes upstairs sleeps in wardrobe cones down when the kids get home has her other half of food. Goes back upstairs on a bed to sleep in the sun. Evening comes down for a snuggle and to look at us like were crazy while we try and get her to play.. She may occasionally stick a head out the cat flap but that's it. The belly on her is huge dh googled it and keeps calling it her primordial pouch.

Oh and in the pick she's yellow because boy found DDS spray pen art box... And she couldn't be arsed to get off the bed while he sprayed her....

Black Furry stone of doooooooom (for the mice anyway)

whois · 25/06/2016 18:22

Love the fat cat tums!

TroysMammy · 25/06/2016 19:40

I had a black and white tom cat and when I took him to the vets for his annual health check I asked "could you weigh him please as he was a bit porky last year". The vet weighed him and said "He still is". The cat was not at all impressed.

Tubbyinthehottub · 26/06/2016 00:11

24g of dry isn't a measly amount. What sort of food does Blobby eat? I feed mine one pouch in the morning and 30g of dry for evening meal but it's grain free stuff. I'd rather not feed him any dry at all as I worry about him not getting enough moisture but he loves the biscuits. If you're worried about teeth you could try teeth cleaning treats like Zahnies from Zooplus. That's what I do and my cat's teeth have improved. He is a healthy weight, around 4kg but probably not big boned anyway.

These cars are all absolutely fabulous!!! GrinGrin

SoupDragon · 26/06/2016 16:20

Why is an obese cat fabulous?

pinkyredrose · 26/06/2016 16:31

Naughty I love that pic of your cat sat at the Christmas table, she's absolutely beautiful! Smile

RubbishMantra · 26/06/2016 16:32

I love that pic of Naughtytummycat, sitting naicely at the table, complete with wine glass and Christmas cracker. If only she were wearing the paper hat, you could get them printed for xmas cards.

I have a boy who sleeps in that same Garfield position. It was remarked on here that it looked like yoga pose, so maybe she's at least trying to keep fit?

Naughtytummy · 26/06/2016 18:57

I have to confess, it's not just Christmas. She has her own seat and is often first to the table.

cbigs · 26/06/2016 21:13

Chill out soup all cats are fabulous to me . I didn't say because they were obese Hmm and for what it's worth none of these cats look in dire need of help just a bit of a gut on them . Smile

Harry has lost a bit of weight since his jaw and teeth problems but he still has a paunch. The vet is happy with him (he's around 5kgs) and I don't know how I'd get rid of his belly anyway!

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/06/2016 08:19

Chunky Beebs aka My Queen. As you can tell by the size of her paws and head, she was never going to be a dainty fairy of a cat, but she does have a belly on her.

It'll adjust, Pink. (If the wind is in the right quarter and all. Wink) His overall weight and health are the most important things right now, I guess?

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 27/06/2016 14:47

Tubby The Blob (aka Brian) seems to be coping well on reduced rations. He used to have dry in the morning and wet in the evening but we changed to ratio to 2 dry:1 wet after the teeth recommendations and we may just swap back to that. But agree the teeth idea is a good one.

I'm taking him for another weigh in 4-6 weeks.

Loving all these cats! mayhew yours is so cuddly! ChunkyBeebs is beautiful, she reminds me of my girl. iloveevery she looks cross eyed! Or is just how that photo turned out?

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/06/2016 19:09

It's just the photo, here she is looking straight on. My other cat is a dainty fairy, and much as I adore them both, there is something extra satisfying about a cuddle with a big chunky cat Grin

She's gorgeous! I do have a soft spot for cuddly b/w cats!
