He is our first kitten. We have two dogs and five chickens. If I ask any silly questions, bear with Smile

How not his.

It's fatal going to the vet - going anywhere in fact - with a new kitten. A grown cat they might give a respectful berth to but with a kit, you have to run the gauntlet of everybody and their auntie wanting a moment of adoration. Even the vet! Grin

Good luck - and let us know how he does.

OK, so the kitten did a poo in his tray and buried it and then the pug toddled over and ate the litter covered poo!

Coprophagia. Maybe because the dog feels 'parental'? Best ask on the Doghouse about that one.

I know I sound like the girl out of Despicable Me but he's sooooo fluffffy!

Yes, researched the poo fetish. Very common especially with clumping litter. Think a litter box with a flap is the answer. Pug is usually clean. Pug cross on the other hand loves poo, especially horse, fox, sheep and chicken. Pug cross is keeping a wide berth of Toki.

He'll have the dog doing his bidding in no time. MCat used to hang out with the chickens when he was small, and still makes those "bwaaaw" chicken noises.

I love the name you've chosen for him. Gorgeous little thing.

This litter tray on its way from Wilko! Found puked up kitten poo from pug on the floor this morning. Think Toki and pug slept together and poor pug cross on the floor. Kitten discovered the Aga this morning! He is vibrating very loudly after his breakfast and take this as a happy sound Smile

Puked up poo on the floor this morning? You must be a stronger person than I am! Grin

Toki sounds happy. Day Two of the rest of his life and he's been given an Aga of his own......Smile

I think it was worse when pug cross gorged on horse poo and threw up fresh horse poo hours later I've never seen anything like it!

He is just adorable. Do cats who've been brought up around chickens from a young age generally get along with them (ie. don't try to kill them?)?

Chickens will be fine with the cat Smile

Okay. I know nothing about chickens, little about cats and lots about dogs Wink. I've said to DH I'd like a cat when the dog is no more, and I got the Hmm face in return.

I've had no problems with farm kittens brought up with mature hens around. (I wouldn't like to put the other way round to the test, though. Smile)

All good at the vet check. Pug cross also had his 6 monthly healthy pet check. First vaccination next Tuesday.

Margot, I think MCat thought he was a chicken. Never harmed a feather on their heads, yet he'd kill anything else. He'd let them come in through the cat flap and finish his food.

In the wild mum would kick them out from 4 months onwards. Ours was being attacked by his mum at 17 weeks but his sister wasn't.

It's sink or swim.

I guess that, in the way of things, she'd have been happy enough to have a daughter as part of a future colony - but not a son. Lord it's tough out there.

Yes I was thinking that, reduces inbreeding. It didn't seem to bother him at the time. He was too busy trying to mate with his sister.

His mum was an antisocial mare, she jumped up to open the door and leave when we went to visit. Really hard to view the kittens with mum when she buggers off & leaves you to it.
