My lovely cat was killed last night (title amended by MNHQ)

Don't know why I'm posting really, I'm just so gutted and upset, just wanted to talk to people who understand.

DD got a text from a friend to say a cat like ours had been knocked over up the road. We went out looking and found him. DD was distraught, so was I. We brought him back and DH buried him in the garden.

He was only 8, a big daft ginger. He dribbled on me when he got stroked. He used to sit with his paws all wrapped around our other cat. The other cat keeps going and sitting at the bottom of the garden where we buried him. I miss him so much already.

Worst of all, we are having a new puppy today, it's supposed to be such a happy day and I can't stop crying.

So sorry for your loss. It's always so difficult weighing up a cat's higher quality of life and enjoyment if it has freedom to roam against the safety of being confined indoors. I know our cat would never tolerate being kept inside, but we live with the dread.

It so hard, isn't it. We lost our Girlkitten in April and I was in bits for a long while. I recommend the tactic of hiding in corners to howl when the DCs aren't looking. It hurts.

What an horrible, horrible thing to happen. I am so sorry that your beauteous boy is gone. .

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss I know how hard it is when they go to soon. I have recently experienced a terrible loss and I found incredible support posting here. I too have had cats that have been knocked over and it is terrible to experience. I try and focus on the good times, although that is hard at first. My boy was the world to me and I have mourned him greatly but I know we gave him a life where he was truly loved and he knew that, as I am sure your beautiful cat did too. I had posters telling me to be kind to myself and I want to pass on that message to you. Take time to mourn.

So sorry you've lost your lovely cat. They may be fairly small animals but they leave a huge hole

Oh OP so sorry for your loss . It's always heartbreaking when you lose a much loved pet.

I lost my cat three years ago and I would give anything to have her back.

Hopefully the new dog can give comfort to your remaining cat.

I saw my little female cat run over on the way home from school about 30 years ago. I've lost cats due to old age since, but there's something gut-wrenching when it's an accident and you know you could have had longer. Don't avoid crying and grieving!
I have an apple tree on top of my last cat (had him cremated). DCs like ro see it growing and think of him.
