Cat is shaking while he sleeps.

Is this a sign of illness or just something that some cats do?

As far as we know he has only started doing it in the last couple of days.

Possibly? His eyes are closed. It's near constant at the moment. Occasionally he'll stop if DH puts his hand on him in the right place.

It's not just a twitch though. It's like shivering when you're cold.

How old is he - and is this the only thing you've noticed?

Oh - and are you sure he's warm enough?

He's just about one, and yes, the only thing we've noticed.

I think he's warm enough. We first noticed it when he was sitting snuggled between the two of us, and the house is warm.

He is a slim cat, though. So maybe he's colder than we think? (Vet isn't worried about his size, btw. His brother is bordering on overweight so they are weighed monthly at the moment.)

I reckon I'd still cover him with a light blanket just now and see if that helps - and maybe have a chat with his vet tomorrow. For reassurance if nothing else. (What you described sounds more like continuous trembling than dream twitching.)

Well it sounds as if it might possibly be a lowered blood sugar level for some reason - difficult to say what.

Yes, continuous trembling covers it.

DH is going to call the vet today.

No, he ran off to fight with his brother just after I made the post! We'll try that if he does it again today. And I'll check if he does it during the day too.

I'm not a cat person so they don't sleep near me during the day. They've got a cosy tower instead.

Maybe get DH to phone early on in the day and not to leave it till what would be the end of practice hours then. And make sure he's fed well on time.

And have your mobile or video-camera at the ready to film when he starts to shiver, to show to the vet.

An excellent idea. The blighters nearly always put their 'best foot forward' movement-wise when they attend a vet. (They can't do much about bloods etc.)

DH has spoken to vet and got an appointment for Saturday. Vet also mentioned videoing the trembling.
