cat scratching

Hi

Sorry if this isn't in the right place never posted about my Cat before.

My cat will 1 year old in July and we have had her since she was 8 weeks old, we have tried everything from scratching posts, scratch toys, water bottle ect all recommended to me by a friend to try help with this problem, but she just won't stop scratching.

She has scratched all the wall paper off my living room wall but she has dug right in to the wall and pulled some of the plaster off too, she has also scratched all the bathroom and kitchen walls as well.

I am just looking to find out if anyone has any other tips that could help me try and stop her from scratching.

Does she go outside? Scratching is one of the anxiety behaviours but is territorial too.

Agree that it could be anxiety. Have you got a feliway?

What kind of scratching post does she have and how many? Some cats are a bit picky. It really needs to be very tall and very very sturdy (like the wall is to her). I'll see if I can find some links in case it's helpful. We sprinkled catnip on the new one we bought to make it attractive.

Have you friending of the cardboard things?

I like that post. Does it last well? Ours end up bare where he scratches it after a while.

She doesn't go outside as we haven't had her dressed yet.

She has a one year scratch posts and a 3 tier scratch post that's has a bed at the bottom of it and a ledge on top to sit on as well.

I don't have a feliway actually never thought of that

I tried the cat nip on the small scratch post lasted 1 days and she went back to the wall.

Funnily enough now I think about it it's only wallpapered walls she scratches could it be something to do with the texture of that?

If it's the texture of wallpaper she might really like cardboard scratchers like PP suggested. Or ours just likes a big flat cardboard box to sit inside and scratch. But I would have that as well as a good scratch post, not instead of.

Also definitely try a feliway (diffuser is better than spray IMO). I got a replacement one the other day quite cheaply from groupon but most pet shops/big supermarkets/amazon sell them.

Standard rope type scratcher compared with the sisal one in the link. As you can see the sisal one is still intact! Not quite a fair test as rope one is older but we've still had them both ages.

If she's a year why isn't she neutered? What if she got out?

Thanks orange I will order a feliway off amazon later when I'm back home and wolfiefan she can't get out so no worries there didn't ever intend for her to be an outdoor cat anyway.
