Trying not to get too giddy. Going to see a rescue cat this afternoon.

Our grumpy old family car died last summer. DS (then 6) in particular was devastated, he adores all animals and had had to "make do" with next door's hamster and my mum's dogs 200 miles away.

I always said I'd love a tabby. We'd rather have a cat than a kitten. A year old tabby girl popped up on our local Blue Cross FB page the day after we git back from our Easter break. On paper it couldn't be more perfect. Really trying to keep calm and manage the DCs expectations that "she might not like us".

Our new boy was a pest last night, and having slept all day today, is now wide awake and exploring. He wants to go out but he's got no chance!

How did she do overnight and this morning?

She slept under DS's bed. He was delighted (he adores all animals), then on our bed, then back to DS. She was sleeping in DS's bed when he woke up. She's obviously been well loved in the past. She's been hanging out with DD and I today. She's so young and agile thatvshe keeps jumping on things that I'm surprised she can reach, our old cat was so arthriticy for so long!

She's very chilled and purring her heart out. DS took photos of her to school, he's very proud.

Yes - you forget how agile they can be.

Has she eaten/drunk/used her tray at all?

What a lovely lady!! Congratulations to you all, she is such a cuteheart. Special respect to DS for getting her into bed so fast.

Cozie She has eaten a little, drunk a little and used her tray once. All quite a lot less than I would expect in 24 hrs- I'm putting this down to "new house nerves". Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't be at this stage. (If she's eg used her tray, she knows what it is and what it's for - likewise, she knows where her food and water are if desired.)

This change is just huge for her so I would judge her input and output once she's relaxed a little into a routine. Innards can be discombobulated temporarily and appetites affected by these things - it's real early days.

She's just wolfed down a plate of biscuits, and drunk some water and milk.

Good - but not cow's milk I hope?

DS is 7 and grumpy and a bit hyper. He changes and calms down around animals. He always has. We got the new cat for him really. Possibly Guinea pigs for his birthday.

It is obviously going to take ages for those cats to relax and take over in their new surroundings.

Demented, you especially are going to have an uphill task before puds feels relaxed enough to come out from hiding under the bed!

Seriously, it is great to see these cats so confident and secure in their homes for life.

Animals are therapeutic. I think it also teaches children to have consideration and respect for other creatures.

It's bike whose cat won't come out from under the bed! I can't believe how quickly ours has settled and taken over the house...the last one took much longer but Jericho seems perfectly at home and loves cuddles.

Now that's relaxed!

Ha ha LOL!! I forgot the cat was under the bed when we brought her home! She's ruling the roost now, leaping all over the place and snuggling up with DS, her new best friend.

Ahhhh. How is DS liking it ?
