Can anyone find me a rescue cat please? Greater Manc/Lancs

Some of you have been so helpful in talking me down from spunking 500 quid on a fancy cat, and I think I've got that particular potential folly out my system. For now.

But I still can't find a suitable moggie that can cope with our kids and energetic young cat!

I found a ginger kitten near me on gumtree for £0, but the advertiser is not replying Sad

There's lots of other kittens on gumtree but I'm really not keen on encouraging people to let their moggies get pregnant for cash. Some of the adverts give me the rage Angry

I had a long interview chat with the local cat rescue lady - nothing, nada, nowt.

So, free to good home type thing, or a small amount. Not £145 for an ordinary mog! Shock

Our criteria:

  • needs to be able to cope with being pounced on by our playful and energetic 1 yr old car
  • can live with 3 kids (youngest is 3 and lots of rescues won't rehome kittens if there's kids under 5)

Please help me, I'm going cross eyed from looking!

There's also a small rescue in Lancashire that I'm waiting for contact details for

FakeFakeRecordsRecords · 31/03/2016 15:26

I've just spoken to Hollinhurst's cat lady, who tells me rescues will be inundated in May when the season kicks off, so maybe I just need to cool my boots and wait a bit.

Also, As I was chatting to her and she told me about their £50 fee which includes micro-chipping, health screening and vaccinations, I realised that I really shouldn't be paying for kittens on gum tree that come with none of that.

That's a lie, Hollinhurst. He's sad that he doesn't have his picture posted on this thread. Sad

FakeFakeRecordsRecords · 31/03/2016 16:26

eh? that's weird. I can see Hollinhurst's pic of her cat on the app but not the desktop site?

On pets4homes people definitely ask crazy prices for moggies. One thing to be careful of is when someone is giving a cat away you need to make sure there isn't some reason like the cat has a terrible temperament or health problems.

lottielou7 · 31/03/2016 16:35

Here's one for rehoming, OP - not asking for a fee

lottielou7 · 31/03/2016 16:40

cute tabby kittens for £50

TheSpottedZebra · 31/03/2016 17:35

What? That's weird. The pic is there now (and is LOVELY and he looks gorgeous and v contented), but it honestly wasn't there earlier.

hollinhurst84 · 31/03/2016 17:37

Well he is very stealthy. My dad sat next to him for ten minutes before going "is that a cat? Is it real?"

IAmAPaleontologist · 31/03/2016 18:17

Yes some people ask silly money. Our rspca mog was £60 and it includes up to date vaccinations, micro chip and neutering. If any of it isn't done then they give you a voucher for the full cost top use at a local vet.

BlackCatSleeps · 31/03/2016 18:25

A friend of mine 'likes' Millstream Animal Shelter on Facebook (Manchester). Have a look on their page, they are often looking for homes. Yesterday they posted saying they have some kittens.

BlackCatSleeps · 31/03/2016 18:29

There are a few mentioned that would suit lively homes and other cats!

WannaBe · 31/03/2016 18:31

I was looking at pets4homes recently in my areas and some of the prices are Shock £250 for a tortoiseshell kitten Shock she had four of them, so that's £1000 if she managed to sell them. Shock Shock do people actually pay that?

cozietoesie · 31/03/2016 18:48

I don't know. I do know that there are so many older cats looking for a good home though.

FakeFakeRecordsRecords · 31/03/2016 18:49

Thanks Lottie, none of those are quite right for our mad house unfortunately.

I think I'm going to definitely go via a rescue, rather than gumtree now.

blackCat, I got excited then! But they've only got two left which are too timid for children.

Oh no, wait, I misread their post!

i'll ring them tomorrow. thanks!

Oh that's exciting! Good luck!

timtam23 · 31/03/2016 21:40

I was going to suggest Millstream as well. They have a Facebook page and they seem to have lots of young cats. There's also the Society for Abandoned Animals (previously known as Peggy Hendersons) but that's in Sale which might be the wrong side of Manchester for you.

Does this look like a bengal/maine coon cross??

Vinorosso74 · 01/04/2016 09:19

I'm no breed expert but to me it looks more like a cute fluffy black crossbreed!

FakeFakeRecordsRecords · 01/04/2016 09:22

my thoughts exactly!
