Urgent advice please - amaryllis - how toxic is it?

We have an amaryllis plant and a friend just told me they are toxic to cats - I had no idea Sad (I did know that lillies are toxic, just not amaryllis.)

We noticed some "juice" around the plant so we guess our cat has been chewing it.

I called the vet's 24 hour number for advice and they told us to bring the cat in straight away.

DH says the cat is fine and I'm being ridiculous.

What should I do?!!!

It was a very convincing tuft. They were very nice and proffesional but I'm sure they had a chuckle when I left Blush

So glad she's alright. Flowers

I took out out of hours once, obvious pain and trouble weight bearing on the hind legs.

Not only did he act like a perfectly well cat he stood on his hind legs to investigate the table.

Got home, couldn't weight bear or do stairs. Luckily the vet gave me painkillers for him so I dosed him up and dh retired to the spare room for the night.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but remember that you don't know but that she did have sap but that her body managed to deal with it. Another cat - or the same cat in different physical circumstances - might not have dealt with it as well. You followed the vet's advice.

Went to my mum's for lunch today. She has a cat. She also has a large bunch of lilies on a low table Hmm She was completely unconcerned. But I insisted on removing all the stamens (the bits with the pollen on them are stamens aren't they?!)

Funny really how irresponsible chilled out mum is and how responsible careful I am when it comes to cats!

You definitely did the right thing taking her Emma. I'm glad she's OK
