Kitten is 13 weeks old, when I got her she was a girl, called Betsy - we've since changed her name to Tikka, but never actually really checked despite ginger girls not being as common

She's also been to the vets quite a few times, but not sure if they check as standard or not? Anyway, I think she might be growing balls. Any experts on cats' bits around to take a look?

Not yet - he's been poorly so having a bit of a break from vets! All better now, and he's staying as an indoor cat. At least it will be cheaper and a bit less invasive than we thought!

Actually torties can be girls, but they need to have kelinfleters syndrome with three sex chromosomes XXY.
1 in 4 ginger females is very basic ratio using basic genetics linking color with sex chromosomes, however, colour in cats is more complex than this do this is not a true representation.

You should be able to feel testicles, even when they are hard to see, they can be felt.

Like some others on here I also assume ginger cats are toms. Ginger cats are lovely.

I have a bit of a 'thing' for ginger cats I must confess.

Ginger cats (unneutered male in my case) are not all lovely. Beautiful looking but a total bastard. Anyway he belonged to a neighbour and made all the other cats and owners miserable. Breaking into houses, intimidating other cats and pissing everywhere and general fuckwittery. I am sure if he'd been neutered it may have improved somewhat. Anyway he appears to be gone - presumably rehomed so the other cats have all started to come again.

OP I am sure your little one will be a gem. Neutered male cats ime are big gentle giants and much more affectionate than any female I've ever had.

He's just adorable, Eleanor. Bear in mind, though, that my own Oneago's litter brother sired a litter at 5 months to the apparent consternation of his breeder.

It does look like there is a little slit there but it's difficult to tell unless you have a boy to compare with. I'm at work but I'm going home. When I get home, if you like I will post pics of our kittens (boy and two girls), that way you can see which one it most looks like.

Seriously, he is gorgeous. There's a lovely ginger Tom up the road from me who runs up to me for a fuss when I pass him. Ginger cats are the dogs bollocks (excuse the pun)

I think she is almost certainly a girl. My girl kittens didn't comply but the boy did. He is about the same age as he was born on the 6th of January and his testicles are visable.

Wow those are some big balls for a little kitten! Although maybe I have a smaller-balled boy? Old cat couldn't be neutered the first time I took him as only one had dropped so I had to take him back a month later!

I've had another look and compared a few diagrams and even a video - I'm thinking boy now, as the holes are more than an inch apart despite his little balls!

I know, I was shocked. The last time I looked is when I wanted to know their sexes and they were only about 4-5 weeks old. He has really developed in the past month!

Everything grows fast at that age.

I'm now watching videos and looking at Tikka's bits again - luckily Tikka doesn't mind too much. Some of them say "how to determine the gender of your kitten" - and thanks to Mumsnet I'm thinking "but I want to know the SEX of my kitten!"

Still leaning towards boy, despite his tiny balls. The holes are quie a distance apart compared to the female ones! Trying to compare with the other cats, but the girls won't let me look, onr boy is really dark so hard to see, and the other also started off as a girl so maybe not the best comparison!

Those balls get pretty big, he won't be able to walk with his tail down soon.
