Just that really has managed to avoid the tiny worming tablet I hid in his dinner now I'm going to need to try and get him to take the now a bit soggy tablet any advice to get him to take it?
He is feeling very sorry for himself after having his vaccine today.

We use Profender and Advocate for Harry as there's no way we can get a pill down his throat. When he was on Loxicom we put it in Hills A/D food that we bought from the vet and it was down in one so, if it's ever necessary, I'll try crushing a pill in that. The vet described it as crack for cats and she was right!

cozietoesie · 08/03/2016 13:31

So he liked Hills? (I'm always on the lookout for new flavours for my lad. ) Was it wet food?

JanetWeb2812 · 08/03/2016 13:32

Oh this perennial problem! Cats are not psychic but they do spot changes in your behaviour when it comes time to administer the pill and that gives them time to prepare.

Check through previous threads on dosing your kitty. The secret is to be decisive - you won't break your cat.

My old boy has a dodgy heart - it's not impossible!

TheSilveryPussycat · 08/03/2016 13:55

If you use the pill-stuffing-into-cat method, have a cup of water to hand and having stuffed pill and holding mouth shut (the cat's, that is) sprinkle a few drops of water onto cat's lips.

I swear they imitate swallowing to fool you - this helps them decide to do it for real.

TheSilveryPussycat · 08/03/2016 13:56

Obviously, release mouth just enough for cat to swallow.

(I miss DCat, I'm missing cats, so popped by to lurk...)

MissTeriName · 08/03/2016 14:03

Cover the tablet in Philadelphia cheese! Works for both my kittens and the very fussy and suspicious dog. With the kitties I just pop it on top of their food (wet) and they gobble it up.

Pills are Seniorboy's line in the sand and he has the whip hand over me because he would just go into a 'Death, where is thy sting?' if I tried to force the issue. No-one would call me lily-livered when it comes to cats - I've been living with Siamese since I was knee-high after all - but, as I said, I've learned to pick my battles. Pills are no longer one of them. Grin

TreatYoSelf · 08/03/2016 15:59

Lick-e-Lix has been our saviour recently.

TreatCat has had a few courses of antibiotics recently but she scoffed every tablet when it was covered in stinky Lick-e-Lix. It's like a yoghurty liquid in a little tube and a little goes a long way. It worked even when Dreamies had lost their magic touch!

cozietoesie · 08/03/2016 16:10

Is that the 'cream'? I was having a look at them and was confused a little - they mostly seem to be treats of a sort.

TreatYoSelf · 08/03/2016 16:20

The one we've been buying is the chicken one.

While it doesn't say 'cream' on it like some of the others, it looks to be pretty much the same.

We view it rather like cat junk food and hardly ever give it to TreatCat apart from when she needs tablets. You only need a little drop to cover them.

chemenger · 08/03/2016 18:08

Little boy scoffs the aspirin for his heart hidden in GoodGirl Catnip drops (he can't read the girl bit luckily). They seem to be made of some sort of fat and you can warm them in your hand then mould them round the tablet. It is the only kind of treat he likes, my normal concealments in cheese, yogurt, cream, mascarpone, ham, stick type cat treats and olives are no good with him, he doesn't like any of them. I am hopeless at pilling and he is utterly without mercy in his application of tooth and nail in avoiding being pilled.

cozietoesie · 08/03/2016 18:35

Thanks for that, Treat. To be honest, we're past the pill-disguising stage here but if it's exceptionally delicious and would make a good addition to Seniorboy's day? Smile

Moonax · 13/03/2016 22:31

Reading all this with interest.

Rescue Mooncat has to take steroids for her mouth. Daily. She was underweight when we got her and scoffed anything, but since putting on over half a kilo and starting to feel better, is getting fussy.

Dreamies do nothing for this girl. Chicken and chicken gravy did, but the speed of consumption is slowing down and the suspicion is growing. On to new ways to feed the cat.

6cats3gingerkittens · 14/03/2016 21:12

Cosie, your last post refers to "treats of a sort" which I read as treats of snot (need new reading glasses). An accurate description of the treat in question......
