How often do you feed your cat?

According to the manufacturer my cat needs 2 pouches per day.
I give him 1 at 7.30 and ideally 1 at 5 there is always some dry food available too. He usually starts miaowing for more wet food in between times though. Am I leaving too big a gap between feeds. This is our first ever cat so any advice welcome

Well... In the last week, I've taken BertCat from twice to once a day.

I expected the transition to be met with protest, but apart from the first morning, she's been fine.

I usually give Seniorboy some pouch or other wet food about four times daily. (Smallish amounts.) He's an elderly indoor cat though so it works for him. The Lodger has fewer meals.

Two pouches a day, one about 7 the other 430/5ish. Often sits meowing at his cupboard for more, but wont eat anymore grr. Hes such a good pigeon hunter though so its no wonder he wont eat it

Boy cat has two pouches for breakfast and one for tea. Girl cat has one at each meal. They get biscuits for supper. Occasionally they get a treat stick or dreamies and if we have roast chicken on a Sunday they get some for an extra lunch.

Harry has a pouch morning and evening and biscuits for lunch and overnight. I did give in and give him another pouch for lunch today though. According to the box he can have 5-6 pouches a day - not that I've told him that!

On demand. Always first thing and last thing but if she miaows by her dish she gets food in between. But only half a pouch at any one time.

I love all these responses our cat has prob been having nearer 3 as I'm so used to feeding baby on demand well toddler now 🙈 That I find it hard to resist his pitiful miaows. He is by no means a big cat so he must need it

Boy cat and girl cat share half a can between them at 730am. They then get a whole can between them in the evening - some time between 8 and 11 depending on when they nag me. There's dried biscuits and water down 24/7 though

He's a muscular cat with no flab.

Half a pouch of wet food in the morning and the other half at about 5pm, and I keep the dry food topped up. Works well for him as he doesn't over eat the dry food, whereas he would over eat wet food if I gave him more.

He won't drink water out of a bowl though, he requires freshly running water whenever someone goes in the kitchen or bathroom.

Neighbours can be the very devil. If they don't have cat food in, and are 'persuaded', it's usually a 'little something" from the fridge. My mother's second boy used to bat his baby blues and obtain a lunch of ham every flipping day. (We discovered afterwards.)

Mine has 3 small pouches a day and dry food down all the time. He knows when he's supposed to be fed and will make sure you don't forget by swiping or trying to trip is up. If that doesn't work he starts meowing.

Two tins, two pouches, dreamies and dry down all the time between four of them.

New Cat has about quarter of a tin (or slightly less - a good dollop anyway) at 7 and the same at 5. Dry food is available 24/7 and he gets a sprinkle of dreamies at bedtime when the cat flap is closed (the rattle of the dreamie tub never fails to bring him in so I can lock him in). He is quite stout

Twice a day or even once is fine. They are designed to eat that way. No need to leave dry food out for grazing as will only end up with a fatty tum tum. Maybe give it sometimes as a meal/treat or with the pouch.

This is interesting, I don't have a cat at the moment (grew up with them though), however my dnan reckons my parents don't feed their cat enough, he gets fed twice daily - and is quite a skinny thing but is healthy. She feeds her cat as and when he 'meows' for it and is quite rotund as a result, she won't be told though.

Girl cat a handful of dry 6am which she grazes on and a pouch at 4pm

They get half a pouch each four times a day - normally 6.30am, 1pm, 6pm, 11pm with dried food twice a day.

Works out at two pouches each split up.

They are 6 months so still growing and seem to prefer having smaller meals more often.

Mine are 4 months so still eating loads.
They have 3 or 4 pouches between them depending if they are hungry. Always have dried down. Plus chicken/beef/lamb/fish depending how I have cooked it. And maybe some veg as well. But then they won't want a pouch so evens everything out.

Dry food gets topped up once a day. Plus half a pouch 3 times a day (They're elderly and need to keep their weight up, little and often seems to be working best)

That's Seniorboy's schedule - little and often. Maybe it's an age thing.

Half a pouch 7.30am and 5.30pm, bowl of dry 10.30pm. Extras sometimes if she asks and I'm not sure if I've forgotten to feed her. Small (2.8kg) neutered 5 yo female, free to go out doors during daylight only. Not fed by neighbours and rarely has titbits.

If Seniorboy asks for food outside his schedule, he's given some. That's the difference with a very old cat - you get those calories in somehow.
