Neighbours moving today -asked us to feed their cat for a week

House few doors down. The cat is lovely, very friendly, most definitely a six dinner Sid and has been in every house in the street. If there is an open window he comes in :o

The neighbours New house doesn't allow pets so she plans to get her and the kids moved in and come back in a week for the cat.

We have been given food. We have three cats already and are now sorting a bed for this cat in our porch.

It's going to end up with him living here isn't if?

I had no idea leaseholders could do that.

Another update. Ex neighbour rang and has asked me to take on the cat.

I am torn. We have boy cat 14, girl cat 10 (had her 2 years) and girl cat 2 (had her 3 months and she's only recently settled). Boy cat has already beaten up this other cat outside and he tolerates our girls but really don't know how he would handle a 2 year old boy coming into his house.

Our three are settled, have routines, a hierarchy and their own places to sleep. If the other cat was female I'd not be as worried but this boy is a bit bitey and growly (as was girl cat 2 but we've calmed her right down and she's lovely) and the odd time he's sneaked in our house there has been hissing and spitting all round.

Help me decide! Ex neighbour is the type to give him away on gumtree which worries me greatly.

Do you have any friends, relatives etc etc who might taken him on at all?

coffeeisnectar · 10/02/2016 18:28

No. My parents are downsizing, my sister isn't a cat person, most of my friends have dogs. Or too many cats already. I am so utterly torn. I want to take him because I worry about where he will end up otherwise but really we decided to stop at 2 and then took on the third from a friend who had a baby and thinks baby is allergic to the cat. It was hard going with her but she's lovely now and I know I could get him the same. It's just a lot to take on.

It still might be worth a quick message to them - even the ones who have dogs. There are plenty of people who have both in their household with great success - I've been one - and at least you'll have given them the option.

cozietoesie · 10/02/2016 18:36

PS - or they might themselves have friends or family who could take him on.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/02/2016 18:55

I really don't know, what was your first reaction? Yes or no?.

Your sister isn't a cat person Shock

coffeeisnectar · 10/02/2016 19:19

First reaction was no. But my worry is where he will end up otherwise. It's a chaotic house with three kids who haven't been kind to him so with some TLC he has the potential to be a lovely cat.

I know, about my sister, she doesn't do anything messy like pets. Weird huh?

Not really. There are a lot of people who don't like living with animals. (And I probably wouldn't ask them to, either!)

timtam23 · 10/02/2016 23:25

I think I would be inclined to take him for the same reason you say, that I'd worry he'd end up being given away for free on Gumtree and end up who knows where. But I've also had multicat households in the past and the introductions/sorting out the pecking order can be pretty stressful. It's your decision of course but I'm too much of a softie & would say yes, he does sound lovely and could do with a second chance at a good life Smile

coffeeisnectar · 10/02/2016 23:46

He's coming tomorrow. I am too soft for my own good.

Oh I am so pleased, hope it works out (I would love at least one more cat but DH is adamant that one is enough at the mo)

coffeeisnectar · 11/02/2016 10:15

Dp only wanted one. We now have four! Ginger boy is hiding in the cat crisp house (you know the display units in shops which hold six boxes? We have one and they can get from box to box inside it). Girl cat 1 has already had him on the floor despite being half his size. There has been a lot of spitting and hissing going on and ginger is growling non stop.

All quiet now, boy cat has gone out, girls have wandered into the conservatory for their morning Sun bathing and ginger is in the cat crisp house. Looking sorry for himself.
