Why do some people get so angry when you're nice to your pet?

Cats in particular it seems in my case since i'm a 'cat fancier' - dogs are lovely too but I would indulge one until it was 20 stone & burst :)

Weird question perhaps but I've had it for years and it's annoying and puzzling in equal measures.

Yes, I give my cat some prawns as a treat a couple of times a week, sometimes roast chicken etc

No, I don't want to go out and get so drunk that I have to stay away overnight without booking a cat sitter, am out of the house for 10 odd hours a day as it is and cat would get lonely and confused, yes I like to be home on bonfire night to manage firework anxiety etc

I don't go on about my cat as no one wants to hear endless stories of things that are cute and fascinating to me but no one else :)

Nevertheless, the snippets I do share attract such vitriol, prawns seemingly being a bit of a trigger for most 'huff, wish I could afford them' ' we'll be round to sit on your doorstep with a knife and fork later' etc

If I have guests round they are scoffing the bleeding prawns as they are defrosting on the side and the poor cat ends up with two left - more indignant huffing when I gently suggest that I buy 1 bag of the frozen kind at £2.50 and they can be a not too expensive treat if anyone is very fond of them.....

Had to shelter with a friend for a month last summer, me and two kitties, very kind of him to put us up temporarily but dear god, the endless lectures about how I am pouring all my love into the cats and am very 'hard to get close to' right down to rants of how 'the fucking things' would live forever if I kept being nice to them.

Realise I probably sound like a nutjob but anyone else experienced this or do I just know a lot of strange people? :)

We'll never know for sure Melonaire, he was so vile about the cats i haven't seen him since the move & don't intend to.

Kept telling me i'm welcome to live with him permanently if i ever get rid of the cats.....cannot wait for Jake to pop his clogs as you can imagine so i can rush back there :) :)

Time for another door session here, at this rate i'll be expiring first, from bleddy Hypothermia :)

I'm a terrible cat owner. They've had chicken only once this week although we caught boy cat trying to jam his head into a jug of baked beans which were going in the microwave. :o. He has a thing for tomato sauce based products and in particular begs for spag bol.

My newest rescue is still not eating very well, won't eat much more than biscuits and water although she's eaten some chicken and ham but doesn't like dreamies and won't eat tuna either. I'm still trying to tempt her with things though.

Seniorboy is about as established as you can get and he won't touch Dreamies and won't eat tuna in water. (He doesn't get the type in brine.) If those are her only food dislikes, I really wouldn't worry too much. Smile

:)

Good job there's still three days left to up the averages.

I found that with the rescues i've had that they didn't know what to do with treat nibbles. Sounds daft but clearly remember the current ruler of my heart & soul being totally uninterested in a saucer of prawns, chicken, ham etc

You'd think the smell alone would entice them to it but it's like the reference centre for 'delicious morsel, just because' was very dormant. Didn't take any of them long to catch on though :)

Same with playing, not a clue what to do, scared stiff of the Da Bird Wand.

Those were the days, he always knows where i hide it now & will bite my toes in the middle of the night to persuade me to swing the toy about.

Let us know what ends up being a hit with new resident coffee, my money is on smoked salmon.

She was offered smoked salmon as well. Turned it down. Her previous owners fed her on pouches but no fish flavours. She hates cat toys except one snake on a stick. She's very feisty and my hands are covered in scabs from all the bites and scratches. She won't go out either as as soon as I close the door she tries to get back in. She had a cat flap at her old house and seems to be worried I'm trying to get her out permanently. She has no idea about playing unless it involves savagely attacking my hand.

I'm sure she will come round. My other girl is a rescue and she hid for months but is currently laid on my legs :o

Boy cat is just a big lump who lives for food.
