Taking my soulmate-cat to the vet today :(

Gonna have to take Zara to the vet today :(. She's been having a diarrhea on and off for the past week and the usual probiotics, gentle food, wormer haven't resolved it. This morning there was a little blood in it (fresh). It's probably just a bug, but much as I adore and worship Bibi, Z is my feline soulmate, she has been with me since I was an MA student, through house moves, friends moving, my other cat's death, getting Beebs, getting Beebs well, my PhD, getting my first lectureship and moving across the country. She sleeps in the crook of my body and purrs her quiet little rumble for me when she's happy. Cross your fingers for us.

Not really - there's one more thing they can add on to the test, which insurance is paying for anyway, so I said why not. Apart from that she agrees with me that a strict elimination diet is the next step. It's so weird because she's always been able to eat anything up till now.

What have you been feeding her up to now? Some cats are grain sensitive and some don't do well with beef.

Humans seem to acquire Adult-Onset allergies so I guess cats and other animals could as well - I don't think scientists understand allergies/sensitivities properly yet. (There's probably a Nobel prize sitting waiting for someone in that regard.) You just have to treat the symptoms/eliminate the sensitising agent as best you can if I recall.

Best of luck to her anyway.

She's been mostly having Thrive but a mixture of fish and poultry flavours - I don't think she's ever had beef. Well, trial and error I guess! She's fine in herself anyway - just doing one of those luxurious forward-and-back cat stretches in front of me as I type!
