Ollie cat not eating

Been off his food for a few days, also over grooming his belly but that's an ongoing problem
He's raw fed, nibbling at odd bits but yesterday hadn't eaten for 24hrs
He will eat cat treats, and a disgusting cat food pouch that was probably 1% tuna (and he doesn't even like fish!)
Do I just keep putting his normal food down?
Photo of the traitor after he inhaled his cat food pouch Hmm

Most wet food you buy in supermarkets and even Pets at Home has only got 5% meat. That's atrocious when you think that cats are carnivores! And there is lots of good quality dry food with high meat content and natural ingredients. If you go into any good quality pet shop they will tell you the same.

My ideal scenario is raw. If he won't eat that then really good quality raw pouches/frozen. If he won't eat that then good quality dry. If he won't eat that then he's officially the weirdest cat ever and I'm posting him to you

I cooked the chicken in order not to waste it. He turned his nose up but is now inhaling it with gusto Confused
Can I not have a normal cat?!

Are you supplementing his raw with taurine? That's really important.

Steer clear from dry. Cats simply don't have the thirst drive to compensate for it and end up with urinary tract problems/ crystals/ blockages.

Not much help if you need food to try now, but when one of my cats was anorexic I used to buy sample packs of many, many different brands/ textures/ flavours from zooplus. Much cheaper than PAH. I still keep a small selection incase I'm caught off guard again.

Hope he gets his appetite back soon, it's miserable when they keep refusing what's on offer.

hollinhurst84 · 02/01/2016 06:05

Yes he's on kitty bloom supplement

I now have a selection of pouches and food, half from p@h and half from colleague. All decent stuff so now he thinks he's on come dine with me
Am awaiting score cards...

cozietoesie · 02/01/2016 19:39

Score cards for the food or score cards for you?

hollinhurst84 · 02/01/2016 19:43

Possibly both
This got a zero

You have to break it up so that it looks appetising on the plate!

NameChange30 · 02/01/2016 19:46

Great photo! But cozie is right, you have to break it into nice chunks. What brand is it?

hollinhurst84 · 02/01/2016 20:03

I was teasing a little with the photo, he just had such a "NO" face on Grin
Broken into chunks and won't touch it. Miaowing heads or something. Turkey and chicken
He's eaten half a pouch of duck and pheasant (different brand)

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 02/01/2016 20:17

Now I read that face not as No but as ' This is a joke, right?' Grin

Dh does that too with food, drives me batty.

Does he go out? Some days mine is suspiciously not hungry.

Vinorosso74 · 02/01/2016 21:37

I do like your photos of Ollie. I would love to compile a selection of pics of the expressions of our cat.
I hope he starts eating soon. Have you tried microwaving the food for a bit so it smells more? Or will he just always expect warm food then?!

hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 06:14

No he's FIV positive so indoor only
Tried heating, he just looked at me like WTF?

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 06:52

Oh and he's now obsessed with washing my nose Confused
Head bops me, sniffs me, washes my nose and tuts then bounds off all pleased with himself Hmm

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 03/01/2016 08:01

He's becoming more confident.Smile

I sense that this is a critical juncture in your relationship. Are you keeping to the rules or are you a marshmallow?

hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 08:10

Quite possibly! He spent all of last night zooming around. Spoke to vet and he's starting back on Ovarid for his over grooming with a vet visit at the end of the month if it doesn't help (it worked last time)
His other favourite new thing is sleeping curled up in my arm with his head in my hair Hmm

OP posts:
muddiboots · 03/01/2016 08:32

If he was on ovarid and now isn't, that might explain appetite change so things might improve once you start back on it
Are you sure he is weeing ok?
I have found some fussy cats love the little foil trays from aldi , probably not the best but better than starvation.
Good luck

hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 08:45

The ovarid was probably a month ago he finished it so don't think it's that - he had a two week course
Yep wee all normal and he drinks really well

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 03/01/2016 09:11

Well he's a fairly feisty boy so I'b be expecting a little testing of the envelope now that he's relaxing into his new home. Things should balance out shortly - although it's really down to you what that balance is going to be. Smile

hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 09:35

He did get shut out the bedroom the other night. Bouncing on the bed, yanking fairy lights and walking on my head Confused
Found him asleep right outside the bedroom door in the morning bless him!

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 03/01/2016 10:23

A reasonable start. 20 minutes Exclusion is usually enough to reinforce the message.

hollinhurst84 · 03/01/2016 10:53

Especially when this is his favourite place in the world to be. The harder I bear hug him, the more he likes it Hmm
