How bad is that for him?

He was practically climbing me to reach it

I misread your title and thought your cat likes Merengue! I had vision of a cat that love to watch dancing Smile

My old boy has just discovered he likes chocolate cake. A lot.

My childhood cat loved eggs and peas. Hmm

NarcyCow · 31/12/2015 12:32

DaintyCat loves broccoli and green beans and crisps. Both will lick the residue of pretty much any sort of dinner from our plates, and especially love icecream or any other dairy based dessert.

The only thing that appears to make them sick is their godawful habit of eating grass every so often.

I think the 'cats are carnivores' thing is a bit of an oversimplification.

Germgirl · 31/12/2015 12:37

It appears PicklePig isn't alone in his liking of crisps then! He won't eat any 'human food' except crisps. And he doesn't really eat those. Just delicately licks the flavour dust off. Cheese Doritos are the favourite, followed by beef Hula Hoops.

ZebraOwl · 01/01/2016 16:03

Crisps, marmite sandwiches, vegan "ham" sandwiches, biscuits of assorted types, free-from apple pies (mostly interested in the filling, cereal bars, flapjacky-protein-bar-thingys, pasta, cereal (with soya milk), vegan "icecream"... All very much pilfered & not offered! If my brother has cheese on anything he has to shut himself away from blond!cat, who is like a ninja & will attack when you least expect it & from astonishing angles in order to swipe some. He also has form for leaping into the fridge to steal it.

Possibly the most impressive theft was the occasion that blond!cat, then blond!kitten, stole a marble cake (roughly the same size as him) from a shopping bag in the hall & managed to hot-paw it upstairs with it & "kill" it on the threshold of my bedroom. (He looked VERY proud when I caught up with him...)

"Cats Can't Taste Sweet Things" is very definitely a big pile of littertray contents. They are very definitely obligate carnivores though, whatever my two furry little reprobates might choose to believe...

nooka · 02/01/2016 06:27

One of our cats has developed a recent taste for crumbs. Mostly bread, but she was very keen on my gingerbread too. Otherwise they really only eat kibble (theirs or the dogs) and small creatures.

Our previous cats have all been terrible hunters and much better scavengers. I'll never forgot the sight of one of our cats jumping through the window with a large lamb joint.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 02/01/2016 06:48

Mine is very partial to pumpkin.

He's not allowed smoked salmon any longer as he has dodgy bladder and kidneys. This makes him very sad indeed.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2016 06:54

Mine likes little strips of flour tortilla, crusts of toast, pie crust, crisps of all flavours, butter (climbed onto the table after Christmas dinner when everyone was busy bringing plates to the kitchen) and scrambled eggs. Plus of course all meats, both cooked and raw, and fish - tuna and sardines especially but will eat any other fish, raw or cooked.

When she was a kitten, she ran right up DD3 who was sort of reclining on the couch eating a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, snatched the ham slice literally from DD's mouth, then ran off with it.

cozietoesie · 02/01/2016 07:29

...jumping through the window with a large lamb joint....

Oh My. Grin

Pumpkin - the proper stuff - is very good for their innards though. (And for humans as well - worth buying the stuff.)

ZebraOwl · 02/01/2016 14:29

StUmbrageinSkelt

As cozietoesie says, pumpkin is REALLY good for naturally regulating & soothing the workings of feline GI tracts. My two have Almo chicken or salmon & pumpkin as one of their breakfast choices - they get one or the other at least one a week. (They have quite a range of wet food options at breakfast, because, madly anthropomorphising, I imagine eating the same thing every morning - especially when they have the same dry food every night, which admittedly they gromph down with glee - would be unbearably dull... Because I have to buy in bulk to afford their Very Naice food our understairs cupboard is pretty much taken up with it, but they're worth it...)

emwithme · 02/01/2016 14:58

math ex-cat once stole the ham out of the middle of the batch I'm from Coventry, yes (aka roll, bun, cob, barm cake) I was eating. It was like watching a magician take the tablecloth off without moving the place settings.

One minute I was sitting in a chair, chewing the first bite of a ham salad batch, the next the cat was on the other side of the room tossing the ham in the air triumphantly and watching me looking agog at a salad batch.

She also likes bread of all kinds, and her and her two fur-sisters will go mental for a bowl of trail mix (between them they eat the whole lot!)

Our current kittens are only five months old and haven't been introduced to human food yet (well, they had a bit of chicken when we had a roast) but REALLY like baked bean juice, and curry sauce (aka what they can get from the plates)

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 16:10

Mine refuses human food - apart from Haagen Daazs Dulce du Leche ice cream

Mine loves Salted Caramel Haagen Daas. I can get the tub from the freezer along with 2 spoons not that DH and I sit and eat straight from the tub, oh no and no matter where she is in the house she will turn up in a moment.

Tokelau · 02/01/2016 16:20

Cheese. Our 14 year old tom loves a bit of grated cheese.

gamerchick · 02/01/2016 16:22

Mines right into melon and mango as well. She'll haunt, prowl around me in a circle and put her face right into mine until I give her some. Nose to nose.

They're funny little things.

Archfarchnad · 02/01/2016 16:26

Archcat has made it very clear over Christmas that he's fairly partial to a lick of Nutella if we're stupid enough to leave any around, on cutlery or plates.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2016 16:52

Emwithme Grin

Nooka Shock My mum's late cat stole half a lamb joint from an unlucky neighbour one Easter Sunday afternoon and dragged it home to her doorstep. It was a little muddy and grassy when it arrived. Mum was mortified. Cat was exceedingly pleased with himself.

DimlowChips · 02/01/2016 21:47

Should have named ours Garfield. She loves lasagne and will sit and stare whenever I make one! I may be guilty of serving her a tiny bowl from time to time.....

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/01/2016 22:11

So, every time you make it then?.

kelper · 02/01/2016 22:15

My cat used to love baked potato skins.....

elephantoverthehill · 02/01/2016 22:15

Current Elephant cat is given a few treats/leftovers every now and again. Tonight she has a bit of leftover fresh salmon in her bowl. She has ignored it. If I had put it in the compost kitchen bin she would have found a way to drag it out all over the kitchen floor.

BogusCatAndThePunk · 03/01/2016 01:53

Old boy loves/ loved roast peppers, it's has to be seared but still crunchy.

Used to drive OH nuts as Old boy would beg and beg, sadly he's (old boy that is) is very poorly this week and if I thought he'd eat it I'd start roasting them now.

I'm still up as I'm trying to get some fluids down him. Sorry to be a downer.

Oh the up, old girl who is little Miss prim/proper, becomes scary once she hears a yogurt being opened. She gets mean…so mean …

OH has been known to hide in the utility room to eat yogurt.

Both of them have a thing for chicken chow mien, watching them slurp noodles, funniest thing ever.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/01/2016 02:24

mine, she will try anything really but especially loves butter and oil, anything fatty really, cheese, tomato pasta sauces, soup leftovers, bolgenese leftovers, chicken and houmous but her favourite is...pizza. yes you leave pizza anywhere and she will steal it. she doesn't just lick it no she chews the eats the slices. i don't know where she puts it!

ZebraOwl · 03/01/2016 02:47

Gromph is beautifully onomatopoeic, isn't it mathanxiety? Although actually black!cat says "yum yum yum" when eating something he particularly enjoys, which cracks me up every time I hear it. Less amusing = the times I get "muuuum" or "muuummyyyy" meyowled at me through my bedroom door at ungodly o'clock. Scared me near witless the first time they did it & still spooks me now. Luckily they don't do it that often. Meep.

mathanxiety · 03/01/2016 05:04

It's perfect -- exactly the sound I hear from the bowl of pellets every morning at about 4.45, along with the ping of the odd pellet being knocked out of the bowl Smile.
