Lost our old girl

We saw our old girl off during the night. She was in renal failure and down to skin and bones. She wasn't in any pain so yesterday when she deteriorated rapidly we decided to keep her at home and let her die peacefully. She waited until myself and DH fell alseep before she went.

She was a foster cat who originally came to us to look after when she was found with a broken jaw. She was so quirky and bosses the other two boys around. Although it was a release and a relief for her we're still so sad. I'm glad we made the decision to let her pass in her own time, on her own terms.

Very sad for you. But as the cliché goes "she had a good innings" and you made her life better when you took her in from stray. I'm sitting here with my old dog snoring in bed (lurcher, not DP who's upstairs doing the same) and I know I'll be devastated when she pops off. Feel for you.

Thanks. She did have it good alright. She managed to have a small amount of cream as a last meal. Just her style.

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was much loved and had a peaceful end. Thanks

How peaceful for her - to drift off at home surrounded by familiar people and things after a farewell sip of cream. Lucky girl. Although you're sad this will give you a lot of comfort.

I'm so sorry Flowers. She sounds like she was a very happy cat, and you gave her a good life. She was lucky to have you.

So sorry to hear about you lovely old girl, try to take comfort in the fact that she had a long happy life in a loving home. Flowers

Thanks so much. She was spoiled rotten and it brings us peace that she slipped away at home surrounded by her fur brothers. We have left her on her blanket so they can understand that's she's gone. One of the boys gave her a few licks before leaving her. I think it was his goodbye. We'll be burying her in her favourite spot in the garden this afternoon.

Aw, that's so nice. They will miss her, I should think.

cozietoesie · 13/12/2015 10:51

I'm very sorry, Inanimate. How old was she?

InanimateCarbonRod · 13/12/2015 13:01

She was between 9 and 11. Being a rescue we never could tell. We guessed 6 but the vet said she was significantly older than that.

We buried her in our garden at the top of the hill where she used to snooze under the bushes during the summer. We're sad but peaceful about it. I'm so so glad we let her die at home.
