Ollie and cat flu

Remember me posting about me taking on a rescue with FIV and flu?
Well... He has had loads of antibiotics and nothing has cleared it. And his sneezes stink
I pushed and he went under anaesthetic today to have a scope done
He doesn't have cat flu. What he did have was a huge broken tooth embedded in his nostril Shock causing the sneezing and infections. He must have been in so much pain
Vet is astounded and has saved tooth for me to see when I get him later

I have cream carpets Wink
That must have been his plan. I'm hearing all about his vets visit as he trails me around today

Cream carpets and a black cat with medical issues ? I think you just scored 0 for planning. Wink

hollinhurst84 · 04/12/2015 14:46

Yep! They're 8 years old so not too bad and a sort of twisted cream/beige/brown pile
As seen in this photo of him today trying to chat to me!

What a lovely, darling cat to be so affectionate through all that! He is a treasure.

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 05/12/2015 09:17

This is just fab fab fab. What a lovely boy. Had he has raw before? I'm wondering about moving mine onto it.

hollinhurst84 · 05/12/2015 12:20

He was stray for 4 years so not sure what he was eating then, but was on normal cat food in foster. I moved him on to raw when I got him

What are his teeth like? I'm mindful of the fact that he's positive but I recall that The Lodger brought himself up on the streets and his teeth were.......not so good. (One often thinks of strays hunting and eating raw food but I suspect that there's a lot of bin diving these days.)

hollinhurst84 · 05/12/2015 13:28

Pretty good except for the offending tooth! He does appear to have had a home, maybe for a year then ended up stray for 4 years

cozietoesie · 05/12/2015 14:04

Good. And I'm sure you and his vet will keep an eye on them.

hollinhurst84 · 05/12/2015 14:29

Oh definitely. He's feeling brighter and v chatty today

Did she show you the tooth?.

Dont they do any tests before diagnosing flu? one of ours sneezed but it was a tumour causing it.

hollinhurst84 · 05/12/2015 23:52

Different vet when I picked him up so I didn't get to see it (disappointed!)
He was presenting with classic cat flu - 4 years as a stray, snotty, sneezy, green snot from nostril and as he has FIV it made sense. He's asleep on my lap today

C'mon - fess up! How many toys does he have in total? Grin

hollinhurst84 · 06/12/2015 01:44

Well he got a stocking off one of my friends for Christmas so I have no idea yet!!! He plays with um, none of them really. Preferring to cuddle

Awwww. Love my Mummy! Smile

hollinhurst84 · 06/12/2015 16:23

He woke me up today by bashing an Eeyore toy over my head Hmm

Please always keep us updated about this lovely boy. You are such a lovely person and the story of you two just warms my heart!

He's a lucky lucky cat Smile

hollinhurst84 · 06/12/2015 16:29

Stupid you mean?! Blush what kind of eejit takes on a cat with FIV and flu having never had one before
He's demolished a chicken wing today and is now "playing" with the ribbons on the bedding as I try to change the bed

ThisFenceIsComfy · 06/12/2015 16:34

To some extent, all cat "owners" must be a bit stupid

hollinhurst84 · 06/12/2015 16:36

Ah I know that one. He will no longer eat anything that isn't raw so I have been shopping for turkey mince and pork chunks today. I'll try and link a video of him "chatting"

Oh what lovely chirruping! You are clearly his slave.

hollinhurst84 · 08/12/2015 16:51

Little update. Swabs showed a bacterial infection but he's had an antibiotics jab and now the infection can drain freely. Tooth was so embedded he actually has developed a hole between his mouth and nose which they are hoping will close in time

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 08/12/2015 19:04

Dh had that after his wisdom tooth op. It did heal and he wasnt exactly compliant with the mouthwash and nasal spray Hmm

hollinhurst84 · 08/12/2015 19:18

I've ordered him a teddy Blush
And no, I don't fancy instructing him in mouth wash use!!!!
