Putting cat in cattery for a month

We are just about to collect a new kitten but suddenly wondered what would happen if we took an extended holiday. If he was in a cattery for a month, would he forget us?

No, he wouldn't. Choose the nicest cattery you can find, though, and not one of those awful cat prisons!

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/11/2015 21:54

No but you might get the mother of all bollockings when you get back.

Now43 · 06/11/2015 22:27

That makes me feel happier thank you!!!

Well of course he won't forget you. He'll spend his whole time thinking about you and planning how to make you feel as guilty as fuck on your return.

And you'll beg him for forgiveness and shower him with love, affection, the bestest of bestest gourmet foods and full use of your bed at all times.

He will have won. Grin

He won't forget.

Ours usually goes for two weeks and is very vocal when we get her back. Last weekend she was there for only 6 days though and she carried on something alarming when we got her home. Apparently we're ungrateful swine who don't appreciate her beauty or some such.

What everyone else said, you will be severely told off in very many ways once you are back.

If you have someone who will come and feed your cat in your home you may be less punished, best of all someone to come and housesit...

After a bad experience in a luxury cat hotel ( seriously) We now just hire our lovely cleaning to stay with our felines when we must leave them. It's just easier..

I had to leave my previous 2 cats in a cattery for extended periods a couple of times - once when I had to relocate & it took about a month to find a suitable house to rent, and once when I went overseas for 6 weeks. The first time was unavoidable and the 2nd time I felt less anxious knowing they were safe in the cattery (had previously used same cattery so no concerns about leaving them there). They must have forgiven me as they stayed with me for another 10 years or so!

We put our cat into a battery on a farm, DS is in the same class as the owner's DD at school & she always gives Nim a good cuddle Smile.
Our neighbour leaves her cat at home, with a cat flap & we feed her, but I would worry whilst we were away, I like to know that our girl is safe!

Oh Kindle, a CATTERY! Blush

A month is a long time to be in a cattery. We have a lady who comes to the house to feed and play with our cats when we go away. She is called "The Cat Butler" - cheaper than a cattery too. Might be something similar in your area.

Tootsiepops · 13/11/2015 03:57

Cats can be super unforgiving. Shortly after we got our kitten, my husband had to go overseas for a month. The kitten adored him, and she was a bit lost for a little while after he went, but she gradually transferred her affections to me.

In all honesty, it took her 18 months to fully forgive my husband. It's only been lately that she seems to trust he's not going to leave her again.

So, yes - just to echo what others have said - the cat will be fine, but you will be made to suffer Grin

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 13/11/2015 04:56

Here absence makes the heart grow fonder - especially scaredy cat who is all over us when we return! We leave them indoors with visits from neighbours.

cloudlessskies · 15/11/2015 18:06

A month is a long time with not much interaction and not much space....do you not have a friend that would have the cat or as others have said get a cat sitter who will visit each day, feed and give attention.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/11/2015 20:13

To be honest I couldn't leave H for that long unless I absolutely had to - I wouldn't do it for a holiday. When we go away we have a cat sitter coming in twice a day so he's in his own home. It costs more than a cattery but I'd prefer him to be at home rather than cooped up in a pen.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/11/2015 20:41

Ours likes the cattery, there's dogs to sneer at and horses to watch being groomed and turned out.

More importantly I know exactly where he is. He looks quite content until he notices me watching him and then he's the most anguished cat in the world and it's been an awful, awful week.
