Vets comments about my cat, is she correct?

I've had my rescue cat for a year & have just taken her for her annual boosters & cat MOT for the first time & the vet said a couple of things I'm unsure about so I thought I'd ask you all...no offence to the vet intended...

My girl is an indoor cat & doesn't go out at all but the vet said I still have to deflea & worm her every month as we could carry flea eggs into the house with us. Currently I deflea & worm when she goes to the cattery which is about twice a year. Do I really need to do it every month?

She's eating Royal Canin dry cat food & there's a bowl down all the time then she has half a pouch of wet food twice a day, usually Felix or Whiskas. The vet scrunched up her nose at the wet food & said that all supermarket cat food is rubbish & I need to feed her a premium wet food, like Royal Canin pouches. I can't afford the pouches really, how bad is the supermarket wet food? (Her weight is fine)

Thanks very much :)

Eggs are laid on the host but fall off whem the cat walks around/scratches/etc. That's why they're so bloody hard to get rid of. We found a little pile of eggs on our poor cats bed when she got fleas. It was grim.

If you use a product like mile max for worming then the dosage is one every three months.

I don't do my cats monthly for fleas but do them in summer months and would do it additionally if needed- but I've never had a problem. I work for a national rescue so have a bit of experience with different cats and products!

I would also agree that if you are in an area with a high cat population then it is worth fleeing monthly.

That should read- de-fleaing!

We buy all our supplies from zoo plus which brings the price down a bit.

We are very indulgent with BuggersMoggy foodwise, because we cant afford it, but in practice we rotate foods. Sometimes Encore / Finest type supermarket brands are preferred, at other times, he loves the cheap crap. As he is 16, we are less bothered about his diet than if he were a younger cat.

We used to buy Encore all the time, but tbh I'm more interested in what he can eat, so he still gets premium some of the time, but in a mix. We also leave a bowl of dry food out as standard (topped up / replaced as necessary, but not daily). Our vet was happy with this.

Ours is an outdoor cat, so can't comment on fleas (he's a rat catcher, so we flea him regularly!).

I flea treat when I remember... usually every few months, unless I see one scratching , ditto worming (I buy the combined drop on meds from vets). Dry food is Royal Canin Gastro from the vet as Ophie is sensitive to grains, but mine have gone off their higher quality Almo and Animonda Carny wet and are demanding Felix 'Doubly Delicious' which DH bought a month ago when we ran out of our usual!

I think your vet has an agenda!

My cat is 16 and has early kidney disease. He will sometimes eat the special food for that but he really loves Bob Martins food which I can only buy in Morrison's. It sells out really quickly.

A locum vet screwd her face up and said it was crap. On the side it says formulated by vets!

His regular vet says that it is more important he is happy as he will lose weight eventually as the disease progresses.
