Does your cat wake you during night?

My cat wakes me once or twice a night about 3, 4, 5am. She's usually headbutting me. I stroke her and she stops. It's impossible to ignore though - she butts HARD!!

She's 9yrs old and I got her a month ago. I obviously don't want to shut her out of bedroom but do y'all have any tips?

Shes not allowed out yet as needing more vaccines.

Thanks!

My cats go in the kitchen at night too. Food, warm beds and access to outside.
They sleep on our beds in the day if they wish, although they're usually where we are, unless we have visitors and they'd rather hide. But having them on my bed bat night, whilst cute at first, would soon be annoying as they'd purr in my ears, tread on my hair, sit on me and squash me, or try and sneak into my warm spot. Or bring me dead things toys to play with in the middle of the night.

But if I hear a bad noise, obviously I run down to check they're ok.

If any of my boys tried to wake me at that time in the morning, they would rue the day. (I become a raging termagant if woken too early.) That's why I have Siamese as my personal cuddling boys - it's usually me waking them rather than the other way round!

It sounds as if she's actually a little hungry. It might be attention seeking but the hunger could have made her restive in the first place. I appreciate that you might be trying to slim her down a little if she's overweight (presumably with vet involvement and a prescribed amount ?) but could you maybe try rearranging it to give her some more of the existing amount for her supper? (Nothing wrong with splitting, say, the 6.30 pouch of food in two to give her the same amount overall but a little more in her stomach to see her through the night.)

Might be worth a try?

Thank you all, yes, the vet said she should lose a little weight - she's about half a pound over what she should be so just to limit treats and dry food.

I mean it's not the end of the world that she wakes me but, er, the hard headbutting is slightly irritating at 4am!

Think I might feed her a little more before bed.

I absolutely luffs her though! It is our 4 week adopt-aversary tomorrow and we are still on our kittymoon!

"I obviously don't want to shut her out of bedroom but do y'all have any tips?"

Er, shut her out of the bedroom?! #nobrainer

I love my cats to bits but there's no way they're allowed in my bedroom when I'm sleeping. No way.

I recall when I brought Twoago home, I decided to strike a blow for freedom and set up a bed for him in a box with a nice fleece. I put him in and he got out, I put him in and he got out.....Oh he thought it was a great game! Until he was suddenly overcome by tiredness, jumped up on the bed, dived under the duvet and went to sleep. I gave up at that point.

All my boys have slept in bed with me - wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, shutting them out of the room for a short while is considered by them to be a punishment, so seriously do they take Exclusion from the Presence.

Different strokes, I guess. Smile

cozietoesie · 27/10/2015 23:03

Sorry - that's all my Siamese boys. (Not the others.)

hollinhurst84 · 27/10/2015 23:07

Never Grin but he's shut out the bedroom as he pings off the bed every time I move. He comes in for cuddles when I'm on night shifts

Notmeagain1 · 27/10/2015 23:07

My 5 mo kitten has started waking me at 2am every damn morning, by licking my face. She get up on my chest and starts licking my chin nose and cheeks while purring and kneading at the same time!

I have tried making her stop putting her up, feeding her, but I have been defeated as she will continue until I let her finish grooming me. In turn, i rub my face on her face for about a min and she will settle and go back to sleep.

Anyone ever had to deal with this? Confused

Crazy kitty is making me crazy.

cozietoesie · 27/10/2015 23:18

When is she due to be neutered, Not? Wink

Notmeagain1 · 28/10/2015 07:32

2 more weeks and she will be neutered. Maybe that will stop her. I can only hope.

TheBunnyOfDoom · 28/10/2015 07:52

She's being fed a bit early, she's probably hungry! Why not feed her before you go to bed? We have two and they get fed a pouch at 6.30am (we both leave for work early) and another at 9pm before bed. Sounds like a long gap but they have biscuits left down all day and their water bowl gets re-filled at least twice. If we have meat/fish for dinner, they get a snack around 6pm as well.

They're both a healthy weight and neither of them wake us up in the night. They get shut out of the bedroom and both have their "spots" to sleep in. The only time they cry at the door is if they're cold or they're hungry, which is rare.

cozietoesie · 28/10/2015 10:30

Ah - two weeks to go? All other things being equal (weight, health etc) cats should be neutered at about 4 months - here's the ICC guidance on it including a link to the latest Cat Group Policy Statement - so she probably has a case of the hormones.

I'm not saying she actually knows she wants to go out partying but she could well be restive and wanting something. Best of luck for a fortnight's time if you can't advance the appointment any.

(And keep every door and window tightly closed until the day. At literally any moment you might be faced with an imp of Satan who will try and get out of the house to meet Him Across The Road. You're lucky it's only some head-licking at the moment!)

FishOn · 28/10/2015 16:47

We shut the kitten out of the bedroom right from the start so he'd get used to being outside of our room at night.

Often he sneaks in now, if we leave the door open, and settles in between us, but any fidgeting or whiskers in his face and DH ejects him.

Our old fat cat likes the end of the bed, she's no bother, but they'd not share.

ours are fed 6am, 4pm and 9 pm. They only try and break the bedroom door in at the weekend if we have the temerity not to feed them by 7am Grin
