Spaying, What to expect?

Lavendercat junior is being spayed next week and being microchipped at the same time, I was just wondering what to expect? I've only ever had boy cats before and they bounced back very quickly.
This cat is a little girl, (4 months) who incidentally is much naughtier than any boys I've had. She climbs the wallpapered wall and eats the paper Confused and has ripped the net curtains to shreds. The house in DD's words, looks like a Doss house Hmm
Anyway, I digress, how long will kitty be out of action for? And will she calm down after her op? please say yes

Also, the vet wants to charge me extra, on top of the op for the collar thing they wear, as it's optional Shock is this normal?

Generally speaking spaying doesn't put them out of action at all. They tend to be back to their normal selves almost the instant they come round. They should be kept in for at least five days though.

As for calming her down - I doubt it. She's a kitten. Kittens are pains.

We don't use cones, but then our stitches are internal so there is nothing for them to pull at. Ask the vet if there will be external stitches. If not, then don't bother with the cone.

Thanks for that cat I love her dearly but she is such a pickle! Old boy, aged 10 just looks at her like Hmm
They do have a little play together tho and old boy tries to lick her, but she's having none of it and clouts him on the head!

She hasn't been outdoors yet, only in my arms Smile
I will ask about the stitches, thanks

Last time I had a cat spayed (Splodge, now 6) she bounced back like nothing had happened. Sent her off to the vet expecting to get a drowsy thing back again but no, she was her usual self! She also had internal stitches so didn't need a Cone of Shame. She now lives with my best friend, and DH and I have two 12 week old kittens (siblings, one of each) who will be being snipped and chipped at the start of December. Hopefully they'll react the same way.

However, people I know who have had cats who have worried at cuts/nibbled at stitches etc have said that a soft collar like this type is far easier. Maybe buy one and take it for the vet to use if necessary?

My DP took our two cats to the vets for spaying and was very bemused to have them come home in babygrows! No collars here in Sao Paulo. Unfortunately DP discovered that one of our cats was channelling Houdini and managed to leave my DP holding the babygrow whilst she escaped Grin They also don't spay till 6 months - I was sooo glad when they were old enough - I have never had a female cat who wasn't spayed so was not used to just how vocal they can be in season!

The cats were a bit dopey from the operation but within a few hours were back to normal. It hasn't calmed them down but at least they are not in season every few weeks

Aah babygros, how cute, maybe I will take one for the vet to put on kitty afterwards Grin

My kitty was quiet for a couple of days after spaying. I expected her to bounce back immediately, but she definitely didn't. She was eating well and didn't seem to be in any pain ( and was sent home with painkillers) but was less bonkers for two days or so.

My cat was rather upset for a few days - she's a sensitive soul - but healed 'beautifully' (vet nurses' term) and very fast. The real injury was to her pride and faith in mummy (me), and she was very upset about her cone. Once the cone was off she forgot it all pretty promptly.

Well kitty was speyed today, I picked her up at 3.30 and she was very dozy, she ambled out to her food bowl and fell asleep next to it Sad,
Now, hours later she is back to her normal self. Hmm
I have given up with the collar. She came home with it on but as she is so tiny she just keeps pulling it off.
A couple of times she has had a lick of the stitches (they are midline) but I honestly can't keep this collar on,
I tried to create a body stocking type thing with a sock but she then refused to walk at all and just cried!! My next nought is a plaster Shock

What shall I do? I can't watch her overnight to stop her picking the stitches but there is no way this collar will stay on Confused
