Cat stopped eating dry cat food - any ideas?

My 16 year old cat would eat dry cat food constantly if she could. However, she has mostly wet and a little dry. Just hit me she's not been eating dry for a week or so, has been happily eating wet though and seems her normal lively self.

I'm going to get some different dry cat food tomorrow (she'll eat various ones) just in case she's been fussy, but I'm half wondering if she's got something wrong with her teeth or something more serious. Just wondering what everyone's elses thoughts are given she's an older cat.

Our old cat (rescue cat so not sure how old) used to eat anything, but in the last six months has got really really fussy and won't eat brands of food that she ate previously. She's also go hyperthyroidism and is pretty skinny so can't really afford to lose weight - I've resorted to buying fresh chicken and frozen fish which I cook for her. If our cat went off just dry food I'd wonder whether it was a problem with her teeth.

Snowgirl, thanks for your reply. Vet said their teeth were in good condition for old cats last February, but doesn't meant things can't change. I'm going to see what happens when I've got some different dry stuff and take it from there.

Maybe another health check would be a good idea? It's easy for us humans to fly through one dental check only to have problems at the next 6 months later. Can't see it being any different for animals later on in life.

Mind I'm a total fanny about taking the cats to the vets and there being nothing wrong. The husband may throttle me at some point Grin so yes go with the change of food first and see what's what.

Thanks, gamer. I have the car on Friday, so am thinking if I'm not sure to face up to the fact there could be a problem and take her.

I understand.. I'm of the thinking that it'll be better to find out something new so it can be nipped in the bud if possible rather than wait and see what happens.

I would feel comfortable until waiting until Friday and seeing if a change of dry helps but it could be as simple as dry being too much work now if she's elderly.

If she want eating at all then I would worry.

hopefully it's nothing worrying.

Had you just bought the 7kg super value bag? ours only eats if I buy the tiny bags.
