Missing cat

My cat was accidently injured by the vet which required stitches. I had to take my cat back to the vet as he was pulling them out. The vet put a cone around his neck. It wouldn't stay on so the nurse tied a different one on with a bandage . He was extremely distressed in the cat box.

Unfortunately when I got home I kept the house doors shut he shut so he couldn't escape but he shot through the cat flap despite wearing the large cone (which shouldn't have fitted through). I have never seen him so upset and before I could catch him he went hurtling out of the garden into some bushes and across the fields really distressed. I have never seen him like that, I then heard an awful yowl and then nothing.

I have been searching for him for hours and can't find him anywhere despite walking through fields, knocking on doors and social media. There are thick bushes and trees which he could get tangle up in and a road. I feel so awful for him as he is an old saggy cloth cat and hate to think of him suffering. I don't know what else to do apart from continuing to call and walk the area. This is all so awful. He only went to the vets to get his annual booster jabs and wasn't ill. I don't know why I am posting but feel so upset. He's not going to come back is he?

Thank you. Yes this morning. I have scoured the whole area. He never goes far from home and is quite a vocal cat so unusual for him not to be nearby. I am worried sick that he is stuck somewhere and can't get free.

Oh that sounds awful for you both. I think walking and calling is the only option. A torch will make his eyes glow. It's easier to find them that way.

Is he a sensitive cat?.

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 13/10/2015 17:08

No he's not a sensitive cat at all normally. He's very friendly and a big old softie. This really isn't like him at all. He has arthritis so not as mobile as he used to be which made it so shocking seeing him hurtling around and headbutting everything to get the cone off. I couldn't catch him.I have this terrible feeling he has hurt himself and I can't find him in time. I wish I hadn't taken him to the vets now.

Torch sounds a good idea. I tried this around the nearby bushes but will try again when it gets abit darker.

This is awful for you and your poor cat Sad

They can get the cones off with a bit of effort, even if they're tied on with bandage.

Fingers crossed that he comes back. Cats are pretty resilient.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 13/10/2015 17:20

I was coming on to say shake a packet of dreamies too Smile

Poor moggy and poor you, he is probably just lying low thinking of ways to get revenge, (including making you worry about him) but I do hope he comes home soon.

Your vet doesn't sound very good, by the way!

PurpleHairAndPearls · 13/10/2015 17:22

I just thought. Does he have a collar on with a bell? Just wondering if you would hear him if he was caught on something.

I sincerely hope he isn't and he is just punishing you Smile

PurpleHairAndPearls · 13/10/2015 21:22

Any news, golden?

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 13/10/2015 22:53

Still no sign of him and it's cold and raining. He doesn't have a collar and bell. I feel so upset and hope our cat isn't going through an awful lingering death somewhere. The children kept asking where he is.
DH is walking through the fields and hedges searching now in the dark.

Put litter tray outside? They are supposed to be able to smell it. Walk and call (wafting tuna)
Hopefully he's just shot off to hide and think for a few hours.

Any news?

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 14/10/2015 09:10

I went out first thing this morning with a torch calling him as he still hadn't come home but then heard a faint meowing every time I called his name. DH came out and as we were searching all the bushes again, there was a mad whoosh from the next door neighbours hedge and he came somersaulting out. He was starving and thirsty and but seems OK. Amazingly he still has the cone firmly on! He is being very cuddly and currently sitting on my hand trying to stop me typing!

Thank you so much for all your support. I really thought the worst and am so grateful to all of you who were offering support and advice and kind words. It really helped get through a horrible day and night.

I'm so glad he's home. Poor boy.

hiddenhome2 · 14/10/2015 11:33

Blimey, that's a relief for you all. I expect all he'll do is eat and sleep for the next few days Grin

maybeIwillmaybeIwont · 14/10/2015 14:03
