Cat's obsession with tidiness is getting on my tits!

He insists on "covering up" any left over food and drink. I am sitting here at the table, with the laptop, drinking wine. Every time I put my glass down, he rushes over and "scrapes" all round it, "covering it up" as he would do a turd. I just went into the kitchen to get the bottle, and he has managed to balance an envelope on top of it and has knocked the empty bowl of peanut crumbs onto the floor and is busily scraping round it. We cannot put his food on a mat, because he used to pull the mat out from underneath and balance it on top, knocking over his water and food in the process.

Does anyone else's cat do this, and any idea why he does it??

Mine likes to cover his food, but he's not very bright so he just scrapes his claws obsessively on the bare floor around his bowl.

The other weird thing our smelly cat does; he is quite content to stand length ways in litter tray for a wee, it prefers to stand across sideways for a poo so it slips gently over the edge. This is what makes me need to hover in order to make sure bum is fully over the litter tray.

Do they do this to test our love is true?

My evil little bastard cat cannot seem to manage to shit in his box without covering himself and every surface in it! Angry
I loathe cats.

My boy (affectionately known as Twat Cat) does the scraping-the-floor-to-cover-the bowls thing too. It's usually when he really likes what's in the meat bowl, has whinged for it but isn't really hungry enough to eat it, so buries it up with dry food to come back to later. It goes blimmin' everywhere Hmm.

I have never seen one of his turds, ever. He's only lived with us less than a year and he's a wanderer. I expect he has 'special places' in lots of neighbouring gardens, like the Twat Cat he is.

Two MCs here..and dear GOD the mess with the water bowl. First they swirl the water around a bit, then drag the bowl out into to the room, wait for DS2 to tread in it and then paddle!

I found Ophie standing on a ledge in the pond yesterday up to her thighs, dabbling in the fishy water and sucking her paws Grin

Oh and Obie.. master at standing IN the litter tray, crapping over the edge onto the floor then enthusiastically kicking litter everywhere while yelling at me to come and sort it.

That tea cosy idea is looking attractive Grin

However I have never been able to find any explanation for the water dragging!

Some don't like to drink in the same place as they eat.

Mine won't drink from a bowl, she has to have a 'human' glass. If she doesn't she will drink from my bedside water. If the water level is low she will put her paw in and drink from her paw.

The water-dragging is because cats don't like to drink where they eat. Move the water bowl to the opposite end of the room and you'll find it's not moved around as much (we had this problem when mine were kittens, after one too many mornings of waking up and treading in water half-asleep, I learned to move the water bowl).
