BORING THREAD ALERT!

I have white, non-clumping litter from Pets at Home but I have now read that clumping litter is better. Then I noticed some of you guys use wood which I could put in the garden waste bin. But that stuff goes dusty?! Not good for my allergies!

Any guidance welcome, thank you!

Cats best which I buy on Amazon, it's amazing and flushable.
Chick crumb is cheaper and works well but isn't very good with smell, litter freshener helps.

BrilloHair - is this litter very lightweight? My boy is a very enthusiastic burier - is the litter likely to be spread everywhere?

My favourite is World's Best. I have tried Cats Best/OKO but found it a nightmare for tracking and it smells weird. World's Best has the same qualities, but not anywhere near as bad for tracking and a neutral odour. Clumps better as well IME.

I used to like wood pellets. They weren't dusty (I'm asthmatic and had no problems with it) and they disintegrate into damp sawdust when they have been used, so it's easy to see what needs cleaning. It's not great for keeping down the smell though.

I wanted to use it for our new kitten and he'd come from a house that used it so thought all was good. He proved to be fussy though and went everywhere but the litter tray. Until advice on here to change litter had me giving clumping clay litter a go.

As soon as we swapped he was litter trained. It is good for keeping the smell down. And easy to scoop through and take out any used stuff. It's a bit heavy though.

We lidded litter tray which is great. You can hear him throwing it around in there when burying his business but it doesn't get out.

He will spend all day in the garden and still come in to use his litter tray.

Bert, I doubled checked as I have tried both and you are right, it is world's best I buy now.
Wood mulches after ten seconds and is heavy, the crystal stuff goes everywhere, and all the others are dusty and turn into concrete sludge.
I have four indoor cats so have tried them all.

My boys will only use natural earth clumping - Sainsbury's or the Co-op. I tried wood pellet once as an experiment but with disastrous results - never again.

Don't put it in the garden waste bin. I asked my friend who is the head of recycling stuff for our local council and he said not to because cat wee has too much ammonia in it.

Because the cats best type forms into balls when weed on (as long as it's properly deep - needs to be at least 2") the balls are easily scooped out along with the poo & flushed down the loo so there isn't actually a lot of wee in the stuff that eventually gets chucked because it's broken down into tiny pieces/sawdust.

It's also pretty good at smothering poo smells, as long as the poo is buried or at least coated. I used to use crystals & much prefer cats best! It's expensive to buy but works out cheaper because one fill lasts so long
