Transporting rescue cat from Saudi to UK

I have recently taken a stray kitten to rescue centre in Saudi, they are organising the necessary vaccinations and paperwork for me to be able to bring her home to the UK.

BA do not allow pets in the cabin have to go through IAG Cargo, I can't find out any info on how much this might cost or how easy/difficult it will be.

Does anyone have any insight? The last thing I want to do is stress out this little cat, I want her to be safe and happy.

You need to liaise with the carrier that's for sure. Some of the planes I've taken cats in had unheated holds but special little compartments with controlled environments within those holds for carrying animals. You had to check that they were free on any particular plane, though - there were generally only one or two - so advance booking was definitely required.

Thank you for all your replies, looking into all suggestions and speaking to a carrier company.

hello - I brought my cat back from France with British Airways in June. If you look on their website you can find the details for the regional handling agents by contacting their local cargo office.

It cost me 700 pounds approximately and he was transported by the cargo company to the UK animal handling centre where he passed his paperwork and I picked him up. There was no other way to do it from France and my cargo agent gave me all the details BA require to fill in.

PM me if you want me to send copies of the stuff to you. He had to have an up-to-date passport, certificate of micro chip placement etc - to be honest a lot of paperwork but he was treated extremely well. The handling company even sent us pics of him boarding the aircraft while we were inside it on the runway. He is 16 and I had hesitated about bringing him worrying it'd stress him but I couldn't leave him behind. He is snoring and purring next to me now. The people at the Heathrow animal centre were just lovely too. Rang em as soon as I had my suitcases for an update. They even cleaned out his cage and put him in a run to stretch his legs while I drove to pick him up.

Good luck!

Yes - I don't know what it is. Human passengers seem to be just numbers. Cats are somehow - personal - when it comes to flying at any rate.

(Oneago had a flight supervisor and two personal airport attendants for his first journey. (They checked me in also but pretty much as an afterthought. Grin))
